Upon arrival, officers heard multiple gunshots being fired. On February 4, 2021, 30-year-old Jenoah Donald was pulled over by Clark County sheriff's deputies in Hazel Dell, Washington, for a defective taillight. During the stop, deputies attempted to remove Donald from his vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. Deputy Sean Boyle fired two shots, striking Donald once in the head. Donald was unarmed and died on February 12, 2021, after being on life support for over a week.
An external prosecutorial review concluded that the deputies acted in good faith and declined to file criminal charges. In February 2022, Donald's family filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against Clark County, alleging excessive force and civil rights violations.
