Around 2:30 a.m. on March 9, 2021, Grant County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies observed a person acting suspiciously, who then entered a vehicle and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle, and during the chase, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to flip and crash into a yard. Danielle C. Shockey, a passenger in the vehicle, was killed in the crash.

On February 23, 2021, around 1:15 p.m., a man met with a woman in the courtyard of a housing services program in Seattle's Central District. The man allegedly made threatening statements before pulling out a gun and firing at the woman, who managed to escape without injury. After the attempted shooting, the man fatally shot himself at the scene.

On February 16, 2021, around 9:20 p.m., Port of Seattle officers contacted the Seattle Police Department regarding Derek J. Hayden, a man in mental health crisis with a kitchen knife. When officers arrived, Hayden fled down Alaskan Way. PSPD officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by following Hayden. They also employed a less-lethal 40mm launcher that fires foam-tipped projectiles, but this method was unsuccessful in subduing him. SPD officers, including Officers Cassidy Butler and Willard Jared, arrived. Both officers discharged their firearms, killing Hayden.

On February 9, 2021, around 9:15 p.m., Seattle Police officers responded to reports of a shooting near 24th Avenue South and South Massachusetts Street. Upon arrival, officers heard multiple gunshots being fired. Gregory Taylor emerged from around the corner of the parking lot of the Northwest African American Museum, raised his firearm, and began shooting at the officers. Police shot and killed him during the confrontation.

On February 4, 2021, 30-year-old Jenoah Donald was pulled over by Clark County sheriff's deputies in Hazel Dell, Washington, for a defective taillight. During the stop, deputies attempted to remove Donald from his vehicle, leading to a physical altercation. Deputy Sean Boyle fired two shots, striking Donald once in the head. Donald was unarmed and died on February 12, 2021, after being on life support for over a week.
An external prosecutorial review concluded that the deputies acted in good faith and declined to file criminal charges. In February 2022, Donald's family filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against Clark County, alleging excessive force and civil rights violations. On May 14, 2025, the Clark County Council approved a $3.5 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit. The county denied liability but stated the settlement would provide closure. Donald’s family expressed that no amount of money could replace their loss but hoped the case would lead to better training and accountability.

On February 4, 2021, around 7:41 p.m., deputies from the Clark County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Northeast 68th and Northeast 2nd Avenue in Hazel Dell, Washington. During the traffic stop, one of the deputies shot Jenoah Donald (also known as Donald D. Jonah). Donald was transported to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition. His family was informed that there was nothing more doctors could do, and they began preparations for his funeral.

On January 25, 2021, around 11 p.m., Pierce County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic disturbance involving an elderly man and his adult son, John Eric Ostbye, who were reportedly engaged in a heated argument. A firearm was allegedly brandished before deputies arrived. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Ostbye exiting a trailer, allegedly armed with at least one knife or edged weapon. Deputies shot and killed Ostbye when he failed to comply with their commands.

Just after midnight on January 16, 2021, Kent Police officers responded to a report of a robbery involving a firearm at the East Hill Market. The store clerk reported that an individual had been loitering before approaching the counter, pulling out a gun, and demanding money before leaving. Officers noted the description of the individual matched one from an earlier robbery at a nearby convenience store. A responding officer observed a vehicle rapidly leaving a nearby parking lot. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, initiating a pursuit. During the chase, the vehicle veered off the road at high speed and collided with a tree, resulting in the driver's death.

On January 5, 2021, Spokane Police officers were searching for a person connected to a December 27, 2020, homicide. They located Joseph Buskirk driving in North Spokane. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Buskirk tried to escape in his vehicle. Police disabled the vehicle, and after it came to a stop, Buskirk exited the car and allegedly began firing a weapon at officers. Police shot and killed him during the exchange.
