Amherst Police arrived at 450 Mill Avenue to arrest a man for unknown reasons. Police described him as “armed and dangerous.” Police engaged the man in a shootout and called SWAT. A lengthy militarized siege on the home ensued. A neighbor described SWAT using what may have been an armored SWAT caterpillar or other heavy equipment to tear away several windows and much of the front of the house while the residents were inside. Police arrested several people in the home for harboring a fugitive. A Dunn County deputy began a high-speed car chase around 1:30 a.m. on December 1, 2023 that began in Dunn County. The person was hunted by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office across 2 counties and many miles into another county. The vehicle being hunted at high speed until it crashed into a Wisconsin State Patrol vehicle that was “providing assistance” in the hunt. The driver who was not named died.
At least two law enforcement agencies were involved in this multi-jurisdiction fatal chase. Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the investigation and has not given a reason why this dangerous chase was undertaken.

Grafton PD saw Christopher Sewell and recognized him as he had outstanding warrants for allegedly forcing entry into a home nearby days prior. He did not stop and police escalated a chase, put down spike strips to puncture his tires. After he came to a stop, he ran on foot into a tree line and officer Michael Zilke fired at him repeatedly, killing him, alleging that he had shown a gun. No bodycam or objective evidence has been presented so far.
