On July 3, 2021, Ashley Slama, 23, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Devan Michael Potter, 22, along with another passenger, Ryen Swiatly, 24. After leaving Bobbers Island Grill around 2 a.m., Potter was stopped by Sauk County Deputy Matthew Tate for a loud exhaust and a tail light issue. When the deputy approached, Potter quickly fled the scene, and the deputy did not pursue. About 10 minutes later, the deputy informed other law enforcement agencies that he had located the vehicle about a mile east of Gillem Road, overturned in a ditch. Slama was killed in the crash. Potter was charged with fleeing an officer resulting in death, homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, driving without a valid license, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

On March 21, 2021, around 12:15 a.m., deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an argument involving a firearm between a man and a woman at a home in Taycheedah. Deputies interviewed the woman and later stopped a vehicle that left the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found the man hiding in the trunk. When confronted, the man allegedly pulled out a gun. Deputies surrounded the vehicle and attempted to negotiate with the man for several minutes before he shot and killed himself.
