On March 17, 2021, around 10:30 p.m., Fraron Cornelius, a worker at the Roundy's supermarket distribution center in Oconomowoc, shot and killed two co-workers. The following morning, around 5 a.m., police spotted his vehicle in Milwaukee and pursued it. The pursuit ended when Cornelius crashed into the front yard of a home. After exiting the vehicle, Cornelius shot and killed himself.

On March 11, 2021, police responded to a retail theft at Best Buy in Wauwatosa. Officers located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the theft. As officers approached the car, one of the three occupants fled on foot. While searching for the man, officers learned that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on I-41 near where the man had been seen running. The pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Wilke, was killed in the collision. It was believed that Wilke had been involved in the retail theft.

When deputies arrived, an exchange of gunfire occurred, and the man fled. Police later found Nicholas Pingel dead from a gunshot wound. Pingel had killed two individuals, 72-year-old Ray Engelking and 77-year-old Carl Halvorsen, who were unknown to him. Deputies involved in the incident were not identified in the reports.

On February 1, 2021, around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a call reporting that a man had broken into a home in Hayward and held the caller hostage. The hostage managed to escape and contacted the police. Authorities arrived at the scene and attempted to get the man, Terry L. Carson, to come out. Carson refused to comply, and a long standoff ensued. After a period of silence, police used a robot with a camera to check on Carson and discovered that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On January 22, 2021, around 9:06 a.m., deputies from the Racine County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check request for a residence in the Village of Rochester. The request came from a family member who lived outside of Wisconsin. The home was shared by 30-year-old Matthew T. Vinz and his parents, Terrence G. Vinz, 65, and Debra A. Meagher, 62. Deputies entered the home and began searching for the occupants. Moments later, a gunshot was heard near the deputies. Upon investigation, Matthew Vinz was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The bodies of his parents were later found in the garage.
