Laurens County Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to serve a warrant on Indian Mound Road in Laurens on Keith William Dramstad, 57, of the residence at 2221 Indian Mound Road. Dramstad presented “what appeared to be a weapon” and locked himself in the mobile home.” The LCSO SWAT team was called in and set off several explosive devicesincluding apparent tear gas grenades and “flash-bang” grenades and deputies breached the front door of the residence and found Dramstad with a self-inflicted cross bow wound. He had committed suicide under police duress.

Per officials,at about 6:30 p.m. the trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Interstate 65 near the 101-mile marker in Conecuh County. The driver attempted to elude and was chased. The chase continued into Escambia County where the vehicle left the roadway. Once off the road, police shot and killed the driver and injured 3 others. The circumstances were not explained in detail by police. The man was not publicly identified.

After a man named Montaze Slater was shot and killed in his vehicle, Mobile PD focused their search on Joseph Walker. When they pursued him, Prichard PD would later find Walker in a vehicle, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mobile PD SWAT burst into the home of Kordell Jones with a No-Knock Raid and shot and killed him. The raid was aimed at his brother, not him. When SWAT launched the attack on the home, Kordell allegedly tried to jump out of the window with an AR-15. The sister vehemently denies this, stating the entire family had been asleep during the raid and her brother was not armed when killed. Jones' sister states that when police burst into the home, she quickly heard 7 or 8 shots from an AR-15 when police shot her brother. The mayor of Mobile stated after the raid that there will be no more SWAT raids within the city. No officers were charged.

David Fountain struggled with military PTSD and apparently suffered a mental health crisis when he was seen firing a gun at the mobile home park where he lived. Est Dublin PD were called to the mobile home park and shots were fired on both sides. Two officers were injured but stable while 35-year-old David Jermaine Fountain was shot and killed. No officers were charged.

Huntington Park PD tried to arrest Anthony Lowe Jr. for a stabbing. He fled on 2 leg stumps, having lost his legs in a prior police encounter. Police opened fire and killed him. He apparently held a knife. He was fairly immobile and it is questionable whether a double amputee scooting on the ground could have harmed police seriously.

Columbia PD were called with a claim that Jordan Pruyn was threatening people with a gun. When police arrived, they started a lengthy standoff at the 4200 block of Clark Lane. Police responded to a 911 call by an elderly man who said his son had broken a light fixture and was threatening him. When Bulloch County deputies arrived, he refused arrest and a fight broke out when police tried to forcibly arrest him. He was tasered and he reportedly tried to defend himself by firing a gun and was shot dead in his home. No officers were charged.

Mobile PD tried to stop a vehicle on University Boulevard near Old Shell Road for having no tag at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday. Jermaine Clodor Petit, a 41-year-old disabled Air Force veteran, was shot by LAPD officers on July 18, 2022, in Leimert Park while holding a black metal automobile door lock latch actuator, which officers mistook for a firearm. The shooting resulted in severe injuries, including a broken jaw, requiring a nearly month-long hospitalization. The incident exacerbated his schizophrenia and PTSD, leading his mother to seek legal guardianship in early 2023. By October 2023, his whereabouts were unknown. Several months later, he was found deceased in his Lancaster home in a skeletonized state, making the exact cause and time of death undetermined.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and US Marshals were looking for Kenneth Lee Sykes with an arrest warrant with the intention of arresting him for drug use while on probation for past drug issues. He was apparently afraid to come out of a trailer and police forced him out by firing gas canisters. He tried to flee and police claim that he walked towards them and had a knife. They shot and killed him. He reportedly was mentally ill. Claims by police cannot be verified as US Marshals virtually never provide bodycam video or other evidence.

Marion PD attempted a traffic stop at Indiana 18 and Bethlehem Road over a traffic violation. A vehicle did not stop and police escalated a chase. Police chased him into mobile home park and saw that passenger was in the vehicle with the man. The man went into a home and locked himself in. Police called the Marion Emergency Response Team and breached the home and escalated a confrontation. The man allegedly had a semi-automatic long rifle. Police claim that he opened fire. Swamp was called. They breached the home and found him dead. It is not known at this time whether he died by police bullet or self-inflicted gunshot.

Vancouver PD responded to a call about a man at a mobile home park with knives. Police state that he had set a fire to his home. Police fired 40 mm less lethal projectiles at him and finally shot and killed him. On 12/18/2021, around 5 a.m., Vineland Police Department officers responded to a disturbance at the Penn Lincoln Mobile Home Park involving a backhoe. Joshua Gonzalez, 20, was operating the construction equipment, causing significant damage to residences and vehicles. Officers attempted for approximately 30 minutes to stop Gonzalez. During the encounter, Officer Louis Platania shot and killed Gonzalez.

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office located Kfin Karuo’s white Ford Expedition in a parking lot and attempted to arrest him for allegedly pointing a gun at a man on September 29. Karuo drove away, and deputies escalated a high-speed pursuit reaching 70 to 80 mph. Deputy Forrest Gonzalez performed a PIT maneuver, spinning Karuo’s SUV onto a berm. As Karuo began to climb out the driver’s window, Gonzalez saw a handgun in Karuo’s hand and ordered him to drop the weapon. Karuo pointed the gun at Gonzalez, who opened fire while backing away. Karuo ran toward a mobile home park, then turned and again pointed the gun at Gonzalez. Gonzalez fired more rounds. Deputy David Delin, who had arrived at the scene, also opened fire when Karuo appeared to square off. Deputies later found Karuo dead in a driveway with a loaded 9mm Glock in his hand. Gonzalez fired 10 rounds, and Delin fired 8. At least seven bullets struck a nearby occupied home, but no civilians were injured. The fatal shot struck Karuo in the torso. Deputy Forrest Gonzalez had previously been involved in two other fatal shootings.

On 09/29/2021, around 10: 45 p.m., the Berrien County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a man with a knife at the Franklin Woods Mobile Home Park located at 1950 S. 13th St. in Niles Charter Township. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Chaz Nathan McGowen, who allegedly was in possession of a knife. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation with less-lethal rounds, McGowen reportedly did not drop the knife and charged at the deputies, leading them to use deadly force. McGowen was shot and killed by the deputies. The incident is under investigation by Michigan State Police.

Following a call of a man attacking another man with a rifle about midnight, officers arrived to find a man standing in front of two mobile homes, bleeding from his head. The victim and a woman who was with him said they were robbed of their car keys, wallet, and cellphone by an armed white man. The victim said the man hit him in the head with the butt of a long gun. The victim directed officers to a mobile home on the backside of the property. Officers approached the mobile home and found the front door open but draped with a sheet. An officer knocked on the open door and seconds later, the man emerged with a rifle in his hands. Anthony Cravo allegedly raised the gun as if to shoot the officer. The officer shot and killed Cravo.

On 06/21/2021, around 3 p.m., a Michigan State Police trooper was dispatched to a mobile home park in Hamilton, Michigan, following reports of an in-progress breaking-and-entering incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the trooper encountered Virgil Lee Taylor in the front yard of a home. An altercation ensued, during which the trooper opened fire and killed Taylor. Details regarding the nature of the altercation have not been fully disclosed.

Pennsylvania State Police were sent to do a welfare check on Jeffry E. Christopher around 10 p.m. He did not come out of his home, and they returned with a mental health warrant. Christopher reportedly fired two shots at police from around his home around 6 a.m. Around 9:15 a.m., police entered into Christopher's home and took him into custody after he resisted. The manner of death was withheld by police.

On March 18, 2021, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at 14554 Pecan Road in Keithville, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant for an individual other than William "Billy" Walls, a 68-year-old male. Walls, a neighbor, permitted deputies to search his mobile home. During the search, Walls became agitated and attempted to re-enter his residence. For officer safety, he was detained and placed in the back of a patrol car. While in custody, Walls experienced a medical emergency. Deputies removed him from the vehicle and initiated CPR until emergency medical services arrived. Walls was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputy Ryan Chapman was later indicted on charges of malfeasance in office in connection with Walls' death. The indictment alleges that Chapman handcuffed Walls without reasonable suspicion of a crime, leading to his asphyxiation. Malfeasance in office is a felony that carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

On 02/18/2021, Greenville County sheriff’s deputies went to a mobile home on Gibson Oaks Drive in Greer to serve an arrest warrant. Deputies reported that William Clayton Blackwell grabbed a firearm during the encounter, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Blackwell was shot and transported to a hospital, where he later died.

On 02/04/2021, Mobile police officers went to a residence on East Lakeview Drive to serve a warrant related to an intimidation of a witness investigation. During the entry, another individual in the home surrendered to police. Trey Webster later exited a bedroom, and officers opened fire and killed Webster at the scene. The shooting was referred for investigation, which was reported as pending at the time.

On 01/26/2021, a Mobile police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle along US 90 for equipment and traffic violations. Edward Nicholas Bittner was a passenger in the vehicle. After the car stopped, Bittner exited and moved toward the Interstate 10 on ramp. Police reported that he later returned toward the vehicle. During the encounter, the officer opened fire and shot Bittner. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated that Bittner had a knife, though reporting did not clearly establish whether it was in his hand at the time of the shooting. The incident was placed under investigation, and no criminal charges against the officer were announced at the time of reporting.

On January 10, 2021, Chickasaw Police Officer Joseph Hand pursued a vehicle that crashed near Interstate 65 and Craft Highway in Chickasaw, killing 18-year-old Kenya Reed, a McIntosh High School senior, who was a passenger in the car. Reed’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, stating that Officer Hand’s conduct was part of “multiple cases” of reckless driving and pursuit behavior. Hand was later indicted for criminally negligent homicide in connection with Reed’s death. In a separate 2024 incident, while working for the Semmes Police Department, Hand was again accused of causing another catastrophic crash that left a passenger paralyzed.
