Police recognized the man as Fred Wild, known to officers from prior incidents. Police allege that Wild jumped from the cabin window, got into a stolen pickup truck with a snow plow and charged at them in the truck. Several officers shot and killed him.

On 03/19/2023 at approximately 4:20 PM, Hobart Police Officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of West Old Ridge Road for shots fired. When police arrived, they heard a shot fired inside of the home. Residents who had come outsidesaid there was a male still inside the home with a handgun. A perimeter was set and Northwest Regional SWAT was activated and upon their forced entry at 7:15 PM, SWAT discovered a dead man inside the residence from apparent suicide under police duress.

Springville PD were sent to a report of shots fired near 1500 West when someone reported hearing "semiauto rapid fire" while a second caller reported hearing eight to 10 shots fired in rapid succession.Officers searched and came across a car that had struck a concrete barrier near 1200 West and 1000 North.
