Per official police narrative, around 7:30 p.m. on East Sixth Street, officers responded to a call of a disturbance at the address. Police state that Harrington was “loud” and pointed a gun at two officers and was shot and killed. Per his father, Tavares Harrington was experiencing a mental health episode when police arrived and shot and killed him. “They got away with murder”, the father stated. Harrington was on psychiatric medicines, had missed some and was in an exacerbated mental health state and needed help. He shouted to police to please not shoot him, was shot and fell besides his father. It had been his father’s birthday. Harrington had been arrested in the past and was well known to the PD in this town with a population of under 5,000.

After the shooting, the PD received training by the CIT Crisis Intervention Team, a 40-hour training on basic de-escalation of mental health crisis intervention tactics.

Police allege that Daniel Rivera had stolen a car and they were chasing it. Rivera allegedly got out and ran into the woods near Yankee Stadium, fired shots at police and fled. Police caught up with him and executed him with 29 bullets. All family members expressed disbelief at the official police narrative, stating that Rivera did not drive cars and would not be in this situation.

The officer who led the shooting, Michael Menesis, had shot and killed Gambian immigrant Abdou Jallow just the previous year via a stray bullet that hit him when the man was praying in a mosque and Menesis was shooting at someone else nearby.

Delaware State Police troopers were dispatched to a report of a "suspicious person with a gun" and chased Wiseman to an area near Route 141, where a shootout began during which a bus carrying high school students was hit three times. A Grand Rapids man believed to have killed his ex-girlfriend the month prior shot and killed himself following a gun battle with Grand Rapids Police officers. Mahoning County sheriff’s officials said Jonathan Crago, 38, killed two women at a home in the 300 block of Watson Street in Lowellville at about 6:30 p.m.
