Deputies were called after a man rammed several vehicles during an altercation with family members at a church. They spotted him driving the wrong way down the Hardy Toll Road. The 20-minute chase came to an end around 10:20 p.m. when the man ran over the deputy and crashed into a family member's home. Four deputy constables and a Houston police officer opened fire, killing the man.

On September 1, 2021, at approximately 3:30 PM, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) deputies responded to reports of a public disturbance in the 6400 block of Park Manor Drive in Metairie, Louisiana. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Anne Marie Schilly, a 65-year-old woman, reportedly agitated and behaving erratically. Witnesses stated that Schilly was directing racial slurs and profanities toward parish workers repairing a water main. Specific remarks included the use of the N-word and commands such as, "Go back to your country," directed at the workers. This behavior was captured by bystanders on video.

Deputies approached Schilly to de-escalate the situation, but she refused to cooperate, entered her vehicle, and fled the scene. In the process, Schilly dragged one of the responding deputies with her car for a short distance before breaking free.

A high-risk pursuit ensued, with Schilly driving erratically through Metairie, endangering other motorists and pedestrians. During the chase, she reportedly attempted to strike multiple individuals with her vehicle. Eyewitness accounts describe her driving onto sidewalks and into oncoming traffic, exacerbating the public safety threat. The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and Lisa Drive, where heavy traffic temporarily halted Schilly’s vehicle.

As deputies approached her car to take her into custody, Schilly accelerated, striking a second deputy. In response, Deputy Jane Smith fired multiple shots into the driver’s side of her vehicle, striking Schilly. Her car traveled an additional 40 to 50 feet before coming to a stop. Schilly was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 09/01/2021, police from the Battle Creek Police Department responded to a call around 3: 55 p.m. regarding Kamren Brown attempting to break into a woman's home. Upon arrival, a foot pursuit ensued. According to reports, during the confrontation, Brown lifted a gun to his head and shot himself as an officer also discharged their weapon, reportedly at the same moment. Brown died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, despite the officer's shot.

Officers responded to reports of the man assaulting his wife. Upon arrival, the man fled in a gray Honda Accord, heading north on Hillcroft Avenue. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the back of a black Ford F-450 truck, resulting in his death. On August 29, 2021, at approximately 4:15 a.m., 24-year-old Michael Rosado and his 44-year-old father, Rafael Rosado, were involved in a dispute with a group of individuals on Valentine Avenue in the Bronx. The dispute escalated to a physical altercation, during which Michael Rosado allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired several shots.

Two off-duty NYPD officers, who had just completed their shifts at the nearby 46th Precinct, witnessed the shooting and intervened. Michael Rosado allegedly turned and fired several shots at the officers. In response, the officers returned fire, fatally shooting Rosado. Rafael Rosado was arrested but was not injured in the incident.

In January 2025, Larry Eugene Price, Jr. died from starvation and severe neglect while detained at Sebastian County Jail in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Price had been incarcerated because he lacked $100 bail. During his time in custody, Price was subjected to inhumane conditions, including confinement in a cell with standing water and urine, which left his hands and feet shriveled. On August 28, 2021, around 9 p.m., Fort Smith Police pursued a stolen box truck occupied by a male driver and a female passenger into Arkoma, Oklahoma. The Arkoma Police Department intervened, attempting to stop the vehicle on Echols Street. The man allegedly rammed a police car and continued driving, nearly running over an officer. On August 27, 2021, at approximately 11:32 a.m., officers responded to a report of a wanted person in Eldridge Park in Elmira, New York. As an Elmira officer entered the park to arrest 53-year-old David G. Wandell, he allegedly pointed a black revolver at her from about 20 yards away. The officer fired several shots, although it is unclear how many shots were fired or if Wandell was struck.

Around 11:45 a.m., officers learned that Wandell had moved to Davis Street and then proceeded to Woodlawn Cemetery. Several officers reportedly confronted Wandell in the cemetery, where he allegedly brandished a weapon. Officers then shot and killed Wandell.

On August 27, 2021, at approximately 3:08 p.m., Christopher Corey Moore entered the parking lot of the Greensboro Police Department headquarters and set fire to a marked patrol vehicle. He then assaulted Officer J.M. Chavez, striking him multiple times in the face and head and attempting to choke him. Moore also attempted to seize Officer Chavez's firearm during the struggle.

Officers A.L. Dellinger and R.T. Brooks responded to the scene after hearing the commotion. Observing Moore’s assault on Officer Chavez and his attempt to remove the firearm, Officer Dellinger discharged his service weapon, fatally striking Moore. Officer Brooks also fired his weapon during the incident.

The officers involved were placed on administrative duty while the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation conducted an independent review. The investigation concluded that the use of deadly force was justified under North Carolina law and common law self-defense principles.

On August 27, 2021, officers from the Portland Police Bureau responded to a federal request for assistance while federal narcotics agents were serving a search warrant at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of North Willis Boulevard in North Portland. On 08/25/2021, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Redondo Beach Police Department officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting an active shooter at the Redondo Beach Pier, located in the 100 block of West Torrance Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers encountered 36-year-old Kenneth Vessell, who had reportedly shot and injured two individuals: a man in his 70s and a teenage boy. Both victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses stated that Vessell was acting erratically, asking people if they had a problem with him before pulling out a firearm and opening fire. After the initial shootings, Vessell fled toward the pier's parking lot, where he fired at another individual, who was not hit.

On August 24, 2021, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Buffalo Police officers initiated a pursuit of a vehicle near the intersection of Sycamore Avenue and Fillmore Avenue. The vehicle did not stop. Officers escalated a chase on Bailey Avenue. The pursued vehicle ran a red light and was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Bailey Avenue and Doat Street.

On 08/24/2021, a 911 call was made around 6:54 a.m. reporting an erratic man jumping in and out of traffic on the 300 block of West Jefferson Street in Butler City, Pennsylvania. Officers from the Butler City Police Department arrived at 6:57 a.m. Upon encountering John Ebberts, a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, Ebberts reportedly stabbed the officer multiple times, prompting the officer to fatally shoot Ebberts around 6:59 a.m. The incident remains under investigation.

Officers were dispatched to the area of SE Fifth Street and Browning after several reports of a man with a handgun in the neighborhood. On August 21, 2021, deputies from the Rankin County Sheriff's Office responded to what was initially reported as a medical call but turned out to be a domestic disturbance. On 08/19/2021, at approximately 7:34 p.m., Ridgefield Park Police responded to a home near Main Street and Grand Avenue after receiving a report of a man barricaded inside and armed with a gun. Officers attempted to negotiate with Scott J. DeGraw, 58. After communication efforts, police breached the home and found DeGraw deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On August 18, 2021, a deputy with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a person in a ditch near 150 East and 430 South in Lafayette, Indiana. On 08/17/2021, around 4:30 p.m., the Pennsylvania State Police responded to a report of an active shooter and a man threatening to harm himself at a residence on Third Street in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania. Destinee Thompson, a 27-year-old pregnant mother of three who was seven months pregnant, was on her way to lunch with her stepmother on August 17, 2021. Officers from the Arvada Police Department, including Officer Anthony Benallo, responded to a report of a woman who had stolen from a Target store and held a knife at an employee. A witness followed the individual to the American Motel at 10101 W. I-70 Frontage Rd. N., where officers were searching for a woman in a white tank top with a chest tattoo. Thompson was wearing a white tank top but did not have the specified chest tattoo. She repeatedly told officers she was not the person they were looking for and that she had no identification. Unable to convince the officers of her innocence, she locked herself in her minivan, locked the doors, and refused to exit, repeatedly stating, "It wasn't me."

An officer smashed the passenger window with a baton. Thompson panicked, reversed the vehicle, hitting a police car, and then drove forward over a curb onto the road. Officer Benallo opened fire, discharging eight shots and striking Thompson. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both Thompson and her seven-month-old unborn child died as a result of the shooting. The shooting was handled in an internal investigation by the Arvada Police Department and the First Judicial District Attorney's Office.

In August 2023, Thompson's family filed a wrongful death and excessive force lawsuit against five officers from the Arvada Police Department, alleging that her race—being part Latina and part Native American—played a role in her being targeted. The Arvada Police Department stated that the family's lawyer has mischaracterized the events surrounding Thompson's death and plans to mount a vigorous legal defense. Katelyn L. Harris, a 29-year-old White female, was shot and killed by deputies with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office on August 15, 2021, in Chuckey, Tennessee. Deputies recognized Harris, who reportedly had outstanding felony warrants, driving on John B. Dennis Highway and attempted a traffic stop. Harris fled, leading deputies on a pursuit onto Interstate 81 and into Greene County. She turned north on Jearoldstown Road before going off the roadway. A passenger exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Deputies reportedly observed Harris holding a gun. Harris allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated toward deputies, at which point three deputies opened fire, killing her.

On August 15, 2021, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) observed a stolen vehicle occupied by a male and female near Lomas Blvd. and Louisiana Blvd. The vehicle fled from a traffic stop, prompting officers to deploy a StarChase GPS tracking device, which successfully attached to the vehicle. The vehicle was tracked to Morrow Ave. and Pennsylvania Blvd. NE, where officers discovered the tracking device had been removed. The vehicle was later found unoccupied in a Walmart parking lot at Northeastern Blvd. and Wyoming Blvd. NE. Officers located a male and female matching the descriptions of the individuals who had exited the stolen vehicle. During questioning, the male suspect, identified as Eric Padilla, handed over a knife from his pocket but refused to be patted down. As officers insisted on conducting a search, Padilla fled on foot. Witnesses and video footage indicate that as Padilla ran, he turned slightly to his left and produced a handgun. Both officers fired their weapons, striking Padilla, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A firearm was recovered near Padilla. The incident is under investigation by the Albuquerque Police Department.

On August 14, 2021, deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office encountered Kyle Anthony Goidosik at a gas station. Goidosik was believed to have been involved in an earlier pursuit in a nearby community. Upon being approached by law enforcement, Goidosik allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at the deputies before attempting to escape in his vehicle.

During the subsequent chase, Goidosik reportedly fired several shots from his car, one of which struck Deputy Ryan J. Proxmire, causing him to crash his patrol vehicle. The chase escalated until Goidosik lost control of his vehicle, drove into a field, and his car became immobilized. After exiting his vehicle, Goidosik continued to shoot at the approaching deputies. Officers opened fire and killed Goidosik.
