Police arrived at the residence of Travis Wayne Hellinger with a search warrant. He was reportedly armed and tried to run away. Police chased him and put a K9 on him at which time he fired shots and was shot and killed. Police did not disclose why they were there, why they sent a dog after him and what they were looking for.

A 19-year-old was the lone occupant of a 2021 Dodge Charger when state police attempted to stop him near the intersection of 20th and Holland Avenue per police. The traffic stop was initiated as part of a drug investigation. Police escalated a chase and Shaurome McKinney died in a fatal car crash after fleeing the traffic stop.

Police arrived at 3330 W Wells Street after a call for shots fired. They found Stanley Stubblefield in the basement with 2 hostages. Police allege he pointed the weapon at them and was shot and killed.

On 12/19/2022, Kenosha police responded to a report of an active shooter at a home in the 1300 block of 56th Street after 911 callers reported hostages and gunshot victims inside. Police said Lopez fired from the residence as officers arrived and officers returned gunfire. After police entered the home, Lopez died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation investigated and the Kenosha County district attorney later declined to file charges against the officers.

On 12/19/2022, Sarasota County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Sawyer Loop Road. According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Alan Otis Smith was inside the home and had a gun. Deputies established a perimeter and attempted to communicate with him. During the standoff, Smith shot himself. He was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident was reviewed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

On 12/19/2022 around 12:25 am, a Danville Police Officer was on Main St when he observed a black colored Mercedes sedan driving erratically and at a high rate of speed. The officer turned his vehicle around to conduct a traffic stop. The Mercedes quickly turned onto Griffin St and crashed the vehicle into the front porch of a residence in the 300 block of N. Griffin St. The Mercedes reversed away from the residence and the driver drove through the front yard and back onto Griffin St and then turned onto Seminary St. The officer observed the driver failed to stop at the red light at Seminary St and Bowman Ave and the Mercedes continued through the intersection. The officer was slowing down and stopping at the red light when he observed the Mercedes appeared to go airborne in the 800 block of Seminary St. The officer proceeded through the intersection at Seminary St and Bowman Ave and observed the Mercedes had left the roadway and struck a tree in the 800 block of Seminary St. Jonathon Connor Gilbert had died in the crash. The vehicle had been stolen.

On 12/19/2022, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired inside a residence in the Lorson Ranch area of Colorado Springs in the 9800 block of Rubicon Drive. Responding deputies found a suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Wilmer Soto, barricaded inside the home. The sheriff’s Tactical Support Group attempted to establish communications with Soto before entering the residence. Inside, law enforcement located Soto deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Three other adults inside the home were found dead from gunshot injuries related to the incident. The sheriff’s office reported Soto had a domestic relationship with one of the victims.

Guillermo Medina, a father of three, was shot and killed by police on Dec. 18, 2022. The family said the unarmed Medina was jogging away from the scene of a car accident where he had wrecked his car. As he was leaving, an officer shot him in the back with a “military-style” rifle.
Medina had paranoid schizophrenia, and the police had already been informed earlier and were called on for help as Medina was having a mental health breakdown, added the family. As Medina fled the police, they escalated a chase that led to a “one-car wreck.”

On 12/17/2022, the California Highway Patrol and Fresno County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting on southbound Highway 41 near Ashlan Avenue after a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident. Investigators say that Kou Vue of Fresno pulled over his vehicle after convincing the women inside to stop on the shoulder and then opened fire, killing 28-year-old Ta-Sheng Ly, the sister of his estranged ex-girlfriend. The victim was transported to a hospital where she later died. CHP and sheriff’s deputies tracked Vue’s vehicle shortly afterward on Highway 99 northbound. At a freeway offramp in Fresno, officers heard a single gunshot from Vue’s car. Police later determined that Vue had shot himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while law enforcement was attempting to locate and contact him.

A Camaro with invalid registration fled from Westminster police slammed into an SUV, then fled on foot. The driver of the T-boned vehicle was killed. Woodlake PD responded to a domestic violence call. Resident Menendez fled in a GMC and was hunted down by police. Police allege that he “refused commands” and was shot and killed. An officer witnessed Parker run a stop sign at S.18th Street and Metropolitan Avenue. He then activated his lights in an attempt to pull her over but she failed to yield and fled the scene.
The driver of a Nissan Altima was chased by police while driving west on Metropolitan when she struck a slope in the roadway at the intersection of South 32nd Street. KHP said the driver lost control, ran off the road and struck a rock wall at a private residence. The crash remains under investigation by KHP. The crash report originally listed this incident as a police pursuit but as of Monday, KHP has changed its records saying this was not a police pursuit. The officer was reported as “following” instead of chasing but it may have had the same effect.

Police were called to an armed disturbance. Officers claim that the man refused to drop his weapon and was tasered. William Foxx Blakely allegedly pointed a gun at officers and was shot and killed.

Brent Lee Kopacka had suffered a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan in the Army and had suffered from PTSD for 16 years. On December 15, 2022, he reportedly threatened to kill his roommates. Police were called and he locked himself in his room. After several hours of SWAT siege upon him, he began firing through the windows and was shot and killed.

Police and the landlord went on a wellness check and found Katie Lynn Powers hiding in the basement. She reportedly fired a shot at them, hit the officer in his ballistic vest. Amy Brogdon Anderson was a local veterinarian who on December 14, 2022 called police and told them she was being followed and asked for help. Police evidently did not take this claim seriously and voiced concern about her minor daughter who was with her, pressuring her. She was threatened with Child Protective Services. Coming under intense scrutiny and accusations by police instead of receiving the help she had asked for, she tried to drive away from them. She shot at police, killing both officers. One officer had fired back. She was later found dead in her car from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her child had been with her through the murders of 2 officers and apparently also her own suicide. She had already been in an agitated frightened state and belief has been voiced that she was triggered into desperate action when police threatened to take her child by force via CPS which triggered the catastrophic cascade of events by escalating her via police.

A 26-year-old man fled Kersey after being reported as an armed trespasser trying to steal vehicles and force his way into homes. Deputies went to the 2400 block of Cottonwood Court around 11:30 a.m. and another 911 call came in and stated that the man had a rifle and was using it to shoot at a home in the neighborhood. Police began to chase him on the I-76, allege that he pointed a rifle at them while simultaneously driving over 100 mph. Multiple agencies began chasing him and finally, a Hudson officer conducted some sort of vehicular assault that stopped the man. The unnamed man died by suicide under police duress.

On 12/14/2022, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson Police Department pursued a stolen pickup truck driven by Collin Mitchell Roberts after reports that he had attempted vehicle thefts and fired shots at a residence in Kersey, Colorado. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 76 near Exit 31 at Main Street in Hudson. Officers used a precision immobilization technique to stop the vehicle. During the encounter, police engaged him in a shootout. Roberts sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital, where he died. Deputies responded to the 13000 block of Bentley Street for a reported gunshot coming from a home around 3:20 a.m. A shot had been fired inside of the house and there was a pregnant woman and 2 more people believed to be inside with Bradly Locklin. Officers arrived and Locklin came outside, fired a shot in the direction of officers. A pregnant woman and others were seen fleeing from the back of the house. Officers fired back, killing Locklin. Locklin was reportedly drunk.

On 12/12/2022, 44-year-old Krista A. Woltz-Hernandez of Buckley was killed when the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 she was driving crashed during a police pursuit on U.S. Route 45 in southern Iroquois County. Uninvolved driver Julie L. McGowan, 65, of Rantoul was also killed.

At approximately 5:12 p.m., Woltz-Hernandez was traveling south on U.S. Route 45 near 1190 North Road while being pursued by officers from the Paxton Police Department and Ford County Sheriff’s Office. The crash location was approximately three miles south of Onarga.

Paxton PD and Ford County deputies were chasing a car southbound on Route 45 when the driver lost control near 1190 North Road. The car crossed the center line and hit a northbound SUV and a northbound pickup truck, then spun out and flipped several times before coming to a rest on the west side of the road. A fourth car received a flat tire after it drove over debris.
State Police said the driver being chased was 44-year-old Krista Woltz-Hernandez of Buckley who died at the scene. The driver of the SUV Woltz-Hernandez hit, 65-year-old Julie McGowan of Rantoul, also died at the scene. A man in a third car was hurt and taken to the hospital.
