On 07/08/2022, Fargo Police responded to a call about individuals slumped over inside a minivan in a garage on the 3400 block of 15th Avenue South. When officers arrived, Shane Netterville, 28, started driving the van forward toward them. Officer Adam O’Brien fired his weapon, striking Netterville. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. The North Dakota Attorney General’s office and Fargo Police concluded the use of force was justified, and no charges were filed. Three years later, in 2025, Netterville’s family held a memorial at Springvale Cemetery. His brother, Ryan Netterville, described the lasting emotional toll on the family, including their loss of trust in police and repeated encounters with law enforcement during city meetings and public events. The family continues to call for an independent investigation into Shane’s death, which the Fargo Police Advisory Board voted against pursuing in December 2022.

Police received a call about a shoplifting and assault and claim that when they arrived, Roderick Brooks fled. Police tried to tase him but he allegedly took the Taser from police. Officer Garrett Hardin shot him at close range in the back of the neck, killing him. Family states that the bodycam video does not match the police narrative. Officer Garrett was placed on desk duty and indicted. On 11/4/2024, he was found not guilty.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit agents tried to make a traffic stop using the excuse of too dark window tint on Tyrance Benbow. Officers felt if they had gotten a tip that he was going to make some drug purchases, and they attempted to stop him. He sped away and police chased him, attacked him with a PIT maneuver, several times and rear ended him, resulting in a fatal crash that killed him.

Roanoke Police received a report of a potentially suicidal man with a firearm in the 4600 block of Long Acre Drive NE having left the area by car. Police knew that the man had an active felony warrant in another jurisdiction and the description of the vehicle was aired via APB to all Patrol Units.
An officer found the car in the area of Orange Avenue and Williamson Road NE and he began to follow the vehicle and also saw that there was a passenger in the car. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the pursuit continued out of the City of Roanoke
Patrol units deployed pursuit stop sticks but the driver continued fleeing. The driver finally lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the 3100 block of Read Mountain Road in Botetourt County. The driver committed suicide under police duress.

Nicholas “Bubby” Keifer was killed after crashing his motorcycle on Route 63 in Bethany near Fargo Road as a result of a high-speed police chase. Just before impact, police allege that they called off the chase. A Genesee County deputy located the motorcycle on its side in a field along with the motorcyclist who died.

On 07/07/2022, Lanier County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic dispute call at a camper on Courtney Way near Ray City. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that as deputies approached, 54 year old Lisa Revello opened the door and someone inside the camper shot her. Deputies took cover and another gunshot was heard from inside. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team entered the camper and found 54 year old Mark Joiner dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The Lanier County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI Douglas Office to conduct the independent investigation.

The car fled and crashed into a tree about a mile two people fled while the other two occupants were seriously injured in the crash. One has since died and the other is in critical condition.

Albuquerque PD tried to interview a friend of Brett Rosenau for a previous incident. When they approached him, he locked himself inside a home, and Rosenau joined him. On 07/05/2022, Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a report of a man camping overnight in a van in the Target parking lot at 11120 Lomas Blvd NE after the store closed. Officers contacted 64-year-old James Kevin Langlois. Police reported Langlois displayed a handgun and retreated into the van. Officers stated they heard a gunshot from inside the vehicle and at least one officer fired toward the van. APD later announced the Office of the Medical Investigator determined Langlois died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that officer gunfire did not strike him. The shooting was reviewed through the Multi-Agency Task Force process and standard internal review procedures.

On 07/05/2022, Aurora Police Department officers responded to a reported structure fire at the Ranger Motel at 11220 E Colfax Ave. During the response, officers encountered an adult male inside a motel room and police stated he had a gun. Officers established a perimeter and negotiators worked for approximately one hour. Police reported the man exited the room holding a firearm and officers opened fire. He was transported to a hospital with critical injuries and later died. The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team conducted the investigation. Initial reporting did not publicly release the man’s name.

Police allege that he eventually stopped and fired shots at police. A patrol vehicle was shot three times. Police allege that the driver, Christopher Ortega, went into the water where he reportedly stabbed himself in the chest and pounded the knife deeper into his chest, police claim. He eventually drowned in the waters of Highland Bayou, which feeds into Galveston Bay.
