Christopher Garrett, 17, was driving a Nissan Rogue SUV on July 30 when he ran a red light at over 100 mph while being pursued by police. He collided with a vehicle that was turning left. His passengers, Jay'Oni Leonard, 14, and Alexia Simpson, 17, were killed, along with Elizabeth Anderson, 62, and George John Nienhouse Jr., 65, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle. Garrett was charged as an adult with four counts of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter.

On July 30, 2021, around 2:30 a.m., officers from the Brooklyn Police Department responded to reports of shots fired near West 73rd Street and Denison Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon arrival, officers located shell casings and obtained a description of a white Nissan believed to be involved in the incident. Police located and pulled over the vehicle. The driver initially complied but then drove away. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle lost control and overturned.

A 33-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and killed. Officers removed the male driver from the wreckage. A firearm was reportedly recovered from the vehicle that matched the caliber of the earlier discovered shell casings. The shots fired incident remains under investigation.

On 07/29/2021, George Tratras called 911 and reported that he had killed his parents. Initially cooperating with police, Tratras later fled during an exchange of gunfire. Officers from the Mt. Lebanon Police Department located him near US-19 and McLaughlin Run Road in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, where he was found deceased from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident is under investigation.

On 07/29/2021, a 40 year old man from Lake City failed to yield for a traffic violation, prompting the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to initiate a high speed pursuit. At about 11:40 p.m., his sedan failed to negotiate a curve on U.S. Highway 90 near NW Eadie Street, lost control, rolled multiple times and caught fire. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 34 year old male passenger, wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.

On 07/29/2021, Lawrence police attempted to stop a vehicle occupied by several juveniles. On July 29, 2021, around 5:30 p.m., officers from the Mansfield Police Department responded to a 911 hang-up call at an apartment located on 300 Wood Street in Mansfield, Ohio. Upon arrival, officers heard someone yelling for help from inside the residence.
Officers ordered James Haynes, a 31-year-old man armed with a knife, to drop the weapon. Instead, he allegedly moved toward a window. An officer fired a Taser, but Haynes began re-entering the apartment through the broken window. Officers opened fire, then forced entry into the apartment. Inside, they again confronted him while he was still armed and fired additional shots, killing him.

On 07/24/2021, Marble Falls Police attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle for an expired registration. The driver, identified as Robert Williams, refused to stop and police escalated a chase that continued at speeds exceeding 100 mph into Llano County. During the pursuit, Williams attempted to pass a vehicle on the right shoulder, clipped another car, and lost control. Both he and passenger Farren Michelle Hawkins were ejected. Hawkins sustained severe head and body injuries and was airlifted to an Austin hospital, where she died on 07/28/2021. The pursuit began over a minor registration violation but involved extreme speeds and unsafe maneuvers.

On July 27, 2021, Chickasha Police responded to a 911 call reporting a suicidal woman with a firearm at a residence in the 1100 block of West Tennessee Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered 49-year-old Lisa Hight outside the home with a gun. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Hight retreated into the residence, firing multiple shots from inside. At one point, she allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon. Subsequently, officers heard another gunshot from within the house. Upon entry, they found Hight deceased.

On 07/27/2021, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers pursued a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Douglas Claiborne on Interstate 15 near Las Vegas. The chase intensified when the driver struck Trooper Micah May, critically injuring him. Troopers then opened fire and killed Claiborne at the scene. The Clark County Coroner ruled his death a homicide caused by gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

On 07/27/2021, the Teton County Sheriff’s Office identified a man who led deputies on a vehicle chase beginning around 11:20 a.m., after he allegedly threatened someone. Deputies located his vehicle on State Highway 33 west of Tetonia around 4:00 p.m. He refused a traffic stop and the pursuit ensued. The chase ended at approximately 5000 West & 4000 North outside Tetonia, where the driver exited the vehicle and died by a self-inflicted gunshot.

On 07/27/2021, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department initiated a pursuit after officers ran the plates of a vehicle at W. Troy Ave and Westbrook Ave and discovered the registered owner had active warrants for theft and controlled-substance possession. Officer Cecil Morrison responded to a report of domestic violence at an apartment on Third Street. Upon arrival, he approached Michael Whitmer's vehicle with his firearm drawn. Inside the vehicle was Whitmer’s 4-year-old son, seated in the back seat. Whitmer attempted to reverse the vehicle out of the driveway multiple times, during which his car collided with an unoccupied police cruiser. As Whitmer reversed again, Officer Morrison fired multiple shots into the vehicle, fatally wounding Whitmer. Reports indicate that Whitmer had been unarmed at the time of the shooting.

Following the incident, Officer Morrison was charged with negligent homicide, a misdemeanor offense. He pleaded no contest to the charge and was ordered to permanently surrender his Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate, effectively ending his law enforcement career in the state. Notably, after the shooting and before his plea, Morrison was hired by the Nelsonville Police Department; however, his law enforcement certification surrender precludes future employment as an officer in Ohio.

In addition to the criminal proceedings, Morrison faces a civil lawsuit filed by Whitmer's family, alleging violations of Whitmer’s constitutional rights.

On July 27, 2021, officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion on the 2500 block of Rondowa Avenue in Riverside, Ohio. The caller stated that a man, later identified as 39-year-old Kevlin Wallace, had broken into the residence and was holding her boyfriend, daughter, and the child’s grandfather hostage at gunpoint.

On July 27, 2021, Losardo Lucas, 55, was wanted for multiple warrants, including charges of murder and attempted murder. U.S. Marshals entered a business in a strip mall where Lucas was located. On July 26, 2021, Indianapolis Police Department officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle around 11 p.m. Upon arrival, a man fled in the vehicle, leading police on a pursuit reaching speeds of 60 mph. On July 26, 2021, deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home at the intersection of N. State Streetand Bush Street in Gobles around 7:30 p.m. due to a report of domestic assault. After securing a warrant, they returned at about 9:30 p.m. Jacob Bender's wife informed the deputies that Bender was hiding in a basement crawl space. A deputy then used a K-9 unit to apprehend him. Bender allegedly stabbed the police dog three times. Deputies fired a taser, then opened fire, killing him.

San Antonio police officers shot and killed Neida Tijerina while she and her children were being held captive by her partner, Angel Sanchez, 28. When Sanchez emerged with a shotgun, police shot and wounded him. In the process, police also shot and killed Tijerina.

On 07/26/2021, officers from the LAPD responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon (knife) near South Union Avenue and Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. A bystander (an off-duty officer) reported seeing Mr. Soto bleeding from the neck and holding a knife, and he began walking toward the officers and others while brandishing the blade. The officers ordered him to stop; he did not comply and advanced roughly within five to ten feet while holding the knife, prompting Officer Martinez to fire two shots (which missed), then a third shot that struck Mr. Soto in the abdomen. He was transported to the hospital, underwent surgery, remained hospitalized for months, and died on 11/02/2021 from complications. The state California Department of Justice reviewed the case under AB 1506 and concluded there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges against the officers, while also recommending policy and practice improvements for LAPD.

On July 26, 2021, around 8 p.m., Rankin County deputies responded to a call regarding burglary and vandalism. They spotted Damien Montrell Cameron exiting the woods. Police escalated a chase, apprehended Cameron. Police allege that he resisted. Police handcuffed him and placed him in the back of a police cruiser and when they returned an unspecified length of time later, they claim to have found him dead in handcuffs in the cruiser. This official police narrative is not collaborated by any bodycam or other evidence. While police omitted mention of injuries, photos submitted by his mother of him comatose in the hospital after the police assault shows significant injuries to his head and face. In addition, the sheriff’s office admitted that deputies handcuffed and locked him in a cruiser for an unspecified length of time prior to finding him dead in the vehicle. Temperatures were recorded at 98 degrees Fahrenheit in Braxton, MS on the day he was found dead in the locked cruiser. It is unknown whether and what types of injuries he may have had during arrest when police obliquely stated he had “resisted” and was overpowered by an unknown number of deputies. His mother is very outspoken and states that he was murdered by police.

Of note, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office responsible for this fatal arrest has been under DOJ supervision as the “Goon Squad” of a number of severely racist officers terrorized and killed black residents. It is unknown whether the death of Damien Montrell Cameron was ever examined by the DOJ.

On July 25, 2021, at approximately 12:15 p.m., deputies from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office (APSO) arrived at an apartment on Kathy Meadows Lane in Crowley, Louisiana, to apprehend a 35-year-old man. The man was wanted for questioning in a Jennings homicide investigation and had an active warrant in Acadia Parish.
Upon arrival, the man fired at the deputies, injuring one. In response, at least one deputy returned fire. After several unsuccessful attempts to establish communication, the APSO SWAT team entered the residence and found the man deceased from gunshot wounds.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is overseeing the investigation into the incident.

On July 25, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Casey J. Stockton, 26, was involved in a motorcycle chase with members of the Cortland Police Department and the Cortland County Sheriff's Office. The pursuit ended near the Port Watson bridge in Cortland when Stockton crashed his motorcycle.

David Wade Gaither, a 49-year-old White male, died by suicide during a domestic disturbance incident on July 24, 2021, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department responded to a call around 10:40 p.m. about a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Gaither’s wife reported he had been acting belligerent and punching holes in the walls and doors. As officers entered the residence, Gaither exited a bedroom, pointed a handgun at one of the officers, and reportedly pulled the trigger, but the pistol malfunctioned. Gaither then followed officers outside, firing two more shots at them in the front yard before retreating inside. After receiving no response, officers entered the home and found Gaither deceased in a bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On July 24, 2021, 22-year-old Daniel Milton was arrested at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze after allegedly grabbing the buttocks of a 22-year-old female hospital employee. Police were called and took Milton into custody.

While in custody, Milton reportedly began acting out toward hospital staff and was medicated. Details about the circumstances surrounding his detention and restraint were withheld by the police. Several hours later, Milton was found deceased. His death was determined to be caused by asphyxiation from being restrained.

On July 24, 2021, officers from the Springfield Township Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Andre Christopher, who was observed traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Christopher failed to pull over, leading officers to initiate a high-speed pursuit that concluded at the intersection of Galbraith and Winton Road in Finneytown, Ohio. On 07/23/2021, deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Marcus Pettis, 23, riding in an Uber at Evergreen Drive and Ninth Street in Lake Park. On 07/23/2021, officers from the San Diego Police Department pursued a vehicle driven by Jesus Salvador Valeta after a shooting was reported and a vehicle matching the description was located near 54th Street and El Cajon Boulevard. Police attempted to stop the vehicle; Valeta fled on foot onto the property of a fast food restaurant near the intersection. Investigators say he tripped while running, dropped a handgun, picked it back up, and then made a motion with the gun while on his knees. Two officers fired their service weapons; Valeta was taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.
