On 05/24/2021, Villa Park police officers responded to a call placed by Haven Bailey reporting that someone was walking outside with a gun near East Kenilworth Avenue. When officers arrived, they encountered Bailey walking toward them holding an object that police believed was a firearm. Officers ordered Bailey to stop and drop the object. Police reported that Bailey did not comply, and an officer fired, shooting and killing him at the scene. Authorities later stated the object was a replica gun. Subsequent reporting and records indicated Bailey had been experiencing mental health distress prior to the encounter. The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the shooting and ruled the use of deadly force justified. No officers were charged.

Upon arrival, officers found a 60-year-old woman who had been stabbed multiple times with a meat cleaver. Rufus James Ramsey III was allegedly still armed with the weapon. An officer ordered Ramsey to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. The officer then shot and killed Ramsey.

On 05/22/2021, at approximately 8: 50 a.m., Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to a domestic assault incident in Beaver Township. Johnny Owen King, aged 63, had been residing on the property with his uncle and his uncle's ex-wife. The reported assault was between King and his uncle's ex-wife. Upon arrival, the troopers entered a travel trailer on the property and requested King to come outside for a conversation. King refused to comply, and according to reports, he armed himself with a .177 caliber pneumatic gun, commonly referred to as a BB gun. The troopers then shot and killed King. The incident is under investigation.

Officers responded to a burglary call at a car dealership around 4 a.m. They saw a driver in a blue Dodge Challenger leaving the dealership, which was later found abandoned with the engine still running. As additional officers arrived, a gray Dodge sped away from across the street. Police chased the vehicle from the Eastex Freeway to the beltway heading westbound. On May 20, 2021, James "Ray" Jarreau, a 57-year-old White male, was fatally shot by officers from the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police during an arrest attempt at 4243 Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Jarreau was believed to have been involved in the murder of his ex-girlfriend and the injury of another man in Pointe Coupee Parish. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.

On May 20, 2021, Washington County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the Economy Inn on Lee Highway in response to a suspected violation of a protective order. Upon arriving at the motel room of Brandon Scott Odell, deputies obtained consent to search both the room and the vehicle. During the search, deputies discovered a gun in the vehicle and illegal narcotics in the room. As deputies attempted to take Odell into custody, he allegedly reached under a mattress and retrieved a handgun. One of the deputies shot and killed him during the confrontation.

The trooper attempted to stop the vehicles, but both drivers fled the scene. A second trooper joined the pursuit, with speeds exceeding 125 mph. The driver of the Genesis lost control of the vehicle as he approached the Bowers Hill Interchange, ran off the road, and crashed into a tree line. The motorcycle continued and was lost by the troopers. The driver of the Genesis, Javaud Aubrey Ahangari, was killed in the crash.

Brendan Charlet, 19, was reportedly acting erratically at the Ash Flat Livestock Auction. A Highland officer later attempted a traffic stop, but Charlet did not stop. Officers from multiple agencies escalated a pursuit into Hardy. At the intersection of Highways 62 and 63, Charlet crashed into a Hardy police vehicle, sending both into a ditch. As officers approached, they heard a gunshot and found Charlet with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly after. Deputies attempted to stop the truck as it traveled through the area. The driver continued driving and struck another vehicle on New Market Road, injuring that driver. The dump truck continued through Immokalee into the Farm Worker Village area while deputies pursued. During the pursuit, deputies fired at the vehicle. The dump truck then left the roadway and crashed into a canal, where the driver, Rudolfo Villanueva, was killed. Authorities reported that the crash followed a prolonged pursuit involving multiple collisions. No charges were filed against deputies, and no final public outcome beyond the initial review was reported.

On May 12, 2021, at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers from the Gervais Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Depot Court in Gervais, Oregon. They discovered 22-year-old Arik Reed suffering from a gunshot wound after attempting to prevent the kidnapping of 17-year-old Oliver "Ollie" Taylor. Kenneth William Peden III fled the scene with Taylor in a white Ford F-150 truck.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the Silverton Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, escalated a chase during which police engaged in a shootout. Taylor was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on May 19, 2021. Police have not disclosed who shot and killed Taylor during the shootout. Law enforcement has not released ballistics reports to confirm which bullet caused Taylor's death. On 05/18/2021, a vehicle pursuit involving the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Adamsville Police Department, and Hayden Police Department ended at Exit 284 off Interstate 65 in Blount County, Alabama. The man, identified as 32-year-old Timothy James Hogland of Adamsville, exited his vehicle and attempted to carjack a motorist at gunpoint. He then fired at law enforcement officers, who returned fire and fatally wounded him at the scene. According to officials, he was also wanted for a homicide from May 13, 2021.

Officer Jones was traveling eastbound on Old Concord Road near Gold Hill Drive; the exact speed at the time of the incident has not been disclosed. The area has limited street lighting. Officers checked the license plate and determined the vehicle had been reported stolen. Caleb Grisenti was seated in the driver’s seat with a woman in the passenger seat when officers attempted to make contact. According to police, as officers approached, Grisenti moved the vehicle forward while officers were positioned close to it, and officers reported being pulled as the vehicle moved. Officers then fired their weapons, shooting and killing Grisenti at the scene. A Critical Incident Response Team review and the 18th Judicial District Attorney later ruled the shooting justified.
