On 04/08/2021 at approximately 11:04 p.m., Zaydin Jon Dudra, 20, of Taylorville was riding in a Ford Focus driven by 19-year-old Haley Anne Shoot on Illinois Route 48 near East 1550 North Road. Jade Thomas, 19, was another passenger. Off-duty Illinois Capitol Police investigator Robert Milton Hodson was driving north in a Jeep Wrangler when he attempted to pass another vehicle, crossed into their lane and struck the Ford head-on.

Dudra and Shoot were pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas survived with life-threatening injuries that left her in a wheelchair before she eventually relearned to walk. Hodson suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Illinois State Police reconstruction determined that Hodson was traveling approximately 88 mph at impact. Shoot had applied the brakes and was traveling approximately 30–35 mph. On 04/08/2021 at approximately 11:04 p.m., Haley Anne Shoot, 19, of Taylorville was driving south on Illinois Route 48 near East 1550 North Road with passengers Zaydin Jon Dudra, 20, and Jade Thomas, 19. Off-duty Illinois Capitol Police investigator Robert Milton Hodson, 46, was driving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler northbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle, crossed into the southbound lane and crashed head-on into Shoot's Ford Focus.

On April 7, 2021, around 6:45 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue Kia Optima in the 1500 block of West Somerville Avenue after it failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle had four occupants. Upon running their information, officers found that two individuals, including 24-year-old James "Poppie" Alexander, had outstanding warrants. As officers attempted to remove Alexander from the vehicle, he allegedly drew a firearm and fired at them, striking Officer Matthew Ponente in the foot. NARRATIVE:
On 04/07/2021 at approximately 4:00 a.m., Noah Joseph Ford, 24, of Sherman was attempting to cross U.S. Highway 75 near State Highway 56 and the Travelers Inn when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck driven by an off-duty Sherman Police Department officer. Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision occurred in an area undergoing major highway construction where the pedestrian bridge had been removed. A witness told local media that pedestrians had been crossing highway barriers in the area to travel to and from the nearby motel.

On 04/07/2021, Daly City police shot and killed 44 year old Roger Cornelius Allen during an encounter on Niantic Avenue. Police approached Allen’s vehicle after observing it stopped with a flat tire. Alexandria PD escalated a chase of a vehicle that they felt was involved in nearby gunfire. The vehicle did not stop and drove northbound on Interstate 295. Police continued to chase the driver into Southeast Washington, D.C., where he exited the vehicle and jumped over a jersey barrier, falling approximately 23 feet onto Malcolm X Avenue. While still being chased, a U.S. Park Police officer deployed a stun gun, and Alexandria Police officers took him into custody. He was pronounced dead at the crash site.

On April 5, 2021, Louisiana State Police Troop C engaged a pursuit of a 2007 Toyota Highlander reported stolen in Houma. The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Frederick Howard of Gretna, fled eastbound in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 90, crossing the Des Allemands Bridge near Raceland. NARRATIVE:
On 04/04/2021 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Lorrence M. Thompson, 30, of Calumet City, Illinois, was riding a motorcycle on Interstate 495 when a Virginia State Police trooper clocked him at approximately 124 mph in a 55-mph zone. The trooper activated emergency lights and siren and pursued Thompson, but terminated the pursuit as Thompson approached the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

At approximately 10:22 a.m., the same trooper encountered Thompson again on I-495 traveling at high speed. Police again attempted to stop him and pursued as Thompson entered southbound Interstate 95. Troopers terminated this second pursuit after Thompson began traveling between lanes of traffic.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Thompson rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma on southbound I-95 at mile marker 162 near the Lorton Road interchange. The impact ejected Thompson from the motorcycle and caused the motorcycle to catch fire. Troopers administered first aid, but Thompson died at the scene.

On 04/04/2021, Michael Ray Wagner, 47, of Geneva, Indiana, was driving a red 1999 Pontiac Firebird on Frankfort Road in Shelby County. Shelbyville police were looking for the Firebird after motorists reported that its driver had stopped in the travel portion of the roadway and pointed a handgun at other motorists.

A Shelbyville police officer located Wagner, activated emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. Wagner continued east on Frankfort Road while the officer pursued. Kentucky State Police reported that the pursuit covered approximately two to three miles.

During the pursuit, Wagner traveled at high speed, lost control of the Firebird and crashed. Wagner was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner. No other fatalities or injuries were reported.

On 04/04/2021, an unidentified man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an encounter with Newberry County Sheriff’s Office deputies near the I-26/SC-121 interchange. At approximately 4:30 a.m., dispatchers received a report of a silver SUV traveling west on I-26 on a wheel rim, producing sparks. A second caller at the Citgo station at Exit 72 reported a man acting suspiciously and appearing intoxicated.

Deputies found a silver Kia Sorento with temporary Georgia tags and one wheel reduced to the rim. They searched the area and at approximately 6:30 a.m. found the man sitting at the edge of woods near the store.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies asked the man to come out of the woods. Police alleged that he stood, pulled a handgun from a jacket pocket and moved the firearm around while deputies took cover and ordered him to drop it. He then retreated into the woods and took cover in a ravine. Deputies attempted to communicate with him while a tactical team and K-9 personnel were summoned.

A gunshot was subsequently heard. Deputies approached behind a tactical shield and found the man with a semiautomatic handgun and a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel found no vital signs. Sheriff Lee Foster stated that no deputy fired a weapon during the encounter.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was requested to investigate because the death occurred during an encounter with deputies.

Gabriel Casso, 21, was running toward New York City Police officers while being pursued by two unidentified men near East 166th Street and Findlay Avenue in the Bronx on April 3, 2021. On 04/03/2021 shortly after 6:00 a.m., Vallejo police responded to Redwood Street and Chenin Blanc Place after a caller reported a man slumped over the steering wheel of an idling vehicle. Officers approached and spoke with the 32-year-old Contra Costa County man. Police said he then drove away at high speed, and officers pursued.

The pursuit reached more than 85 mph in a 40-mph zone on Columbus Parkway. Police reported that pursuing officers generally remained approximately 30 to 50 yards behind the vehicle. The chase lasted less than one minute and covered just over one mile.

The driver lost control and crashed into a tree. Officers attempted to reach him but were unable to safely remove him from the wreckage. Paramedics arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. No other fatalities or injuries were reported.

Around 3:30 a.m., Corvallis Police responded to a call from the Days Inn motel staff reporting a man acting aggressively with a knife. Officers encountered Jeffrey W. On April 2, 2021, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man who appeared to have had a heart attack and a woman threatening suicide at a residence in the 2800 block of Golden Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a large amount of blood inside the residence and were immediately confronted by 38-year-old Lauren Nicole Archibeque, who was armed with a rifle. Officers quickly exited the residence, set up a perimeter, and attempted to de-escalate the situation by making repeated attempts to communicate with Archibeque, urging her to surrender. She did not respond.

After some time, Archibeque emerged at the doorway of the residence, and officers observed her pointing the rifle at them. At that point, three officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Upon re-entering the residence, officers discovered a 49-year-old man on a bedroom floor with a serious laceration to his neck. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later determined that the man's death was a suicide.

Willis-Powell continued driving while deputies pursued. The Kia crossed double-yellow lines to pass other vehicles and reached approximately 70 mph in a 45-mph zone. The pursuit covered about 1.7 to two miles and lasted approximately one minute and 41 seconds.

As the pursuit approached the Fulton County line, deputies fell behind and lost sight of the Kia. Shortly afterward, they found it crashed into a tree near Fayetteville Road and Taylor Circle. Willis-Powell was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut from the vehicle. He died at the scene. His passenger, Jasmine Simone Hayes, 28, was ejected and also killed.
