On 03/21/2021, while officers of the Baltimore Police Department pursued a stolen vehicle, Darius Gore was struck by the fleeing vehicle and severely injured. He was placed into a coma and died less than a month later. Gore’s mother, Rowena Simmons, filed a federal lawsuit against the city and the officers, alleging negligence in the pursuit that led to the crash.

Upon arrival, they discovered that a man had left between his house and a neighbor's before retreating back into his own home, where he barricaded himself. Several hours into the standoff, a drone was used to assess the situation, revealing that the man was deceased inside his residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On 03/21/2021, deputies from the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on Morrison Lane in Empire. The caller reported seeing the burglary in progress through home security cameras while away. Deputies arrived in the area and encountered two vehicles and two men who appeared to be stuck on the roadway. During the encounter, one of the men pulled out firearms. Two deputies fired their guns, killing him at the scene. The second man ran from the area and was located by law enforcement approximately four hours later. The killing was investigated by outside authorities, and no criminal charges were filed against the deputies.

A Bexar County deputy observed a gray Ford Focus being driven recklessly after 1 a.m. The teenage driver allegedly hit several curbs and refused to stop. Police escalated a chase. The vehicle continued to drive through traffic lights and in the wrong direction. Eventually, the car crashed into a semi-mule and a Toyota Camry. The driver of the semi-mule was not injured, but Cynthia Demp, the driver of the Camry, was killed in the crash.

On 03/21/2021, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies were executing a felony warrant for assault on a peace officer in Perris. Deputies located Cristian Castaneda at a residence near San Jacinto Avenue and Bond Road after an earlier incident in which a deputy was shot and wounded during a traffic stop. When deputies attempted to secure the suspect, Castaneda reportedly fired at officers inside the home. An hours-long standoff followed, during which armored vehicles and tactical resources were deployed. Deputies ultimately returned fire and the suspect was found dead inside the residence.

On March 21, 2021, around 12:15 a.m., deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an argument involving a firearm between a man and a woman at a home in Taycheedah. Deputies interviewed the woman and later stopped a vehicle that left the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found the man hiding in the trunk. When confronted, the man allegedly pulled out a gun. Deputies surrounded the vehicle and attempted to negotiate with the man for several minutes before he shot and killed himself.

On March 21, 2021, around 6 p.m., a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol spotted a speeding 2018 Porsche Macan on Interstate 275. The officer activated lights and sirens, initiating a pursuit. The chase lasted about a minute and a half before the driver, 14-year-old Alexander Lara, lost control of the vehicle.

Police state that Eduardo Parra ran away on foot and reached for his waistband and shouted that he had a gun. Police opened fire and killed him. Parra had been unarmed.

On March 23, 2021, U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest 32-year-old Frankie Jennings at a gas station in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jennings was wanted on multiple warrants, including assault with a deadly weapon against law enforcement and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The deputy observed the Camaro fishtail onto McKinley Avenue and activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop for reckless driving.

Portillo accelerated eastbound on McKinley Avenue rather than stopping. During the pursuit, the Camaro reached approximately 100 mph.

Francisco Antonio Portillo pleaded no contest on 10/05/2023 to charges arising from the crash. On 12/05/2023, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Charles Lee sentenced Portillo to 19 years and four months in state prison for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated causing three deaths and injuries to five other people.

In the early morning of March 20, 2021, Georgia State Patrol pursued a stolen silver Ford Fusion driven by Zachary Lumpkin in Whitfield County. The vehicle was traveling over 120 mph on I-75. On 03/20/2021, deputies from the Houston County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Centerville Police Department responded to a domestic dispute call at a residence on Village Walk. Officers encountered Shawn Michael Evanuk in the driveway. Evanuk was out on bond and was prohibited from being at the home. Police said Evanuk went inside the residence and barricaded himself with his three young children, threatening to set the house on fire. Officers entered the home after determining the children were inside. During the encounter, police said Evanuk was holding a knife. Officers ordered him to drop it. A struggle followed, and an officer fired a gun, killing Evanuk at the scene. No criminal charges were filed against the officers.

A Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy was filling up his cruiser at the RaceTrac gas station around 6 a.m. when he encountered James Zambrotto, who was reportedly rambling about wanting to kill people. On 03/19/2021, 20-year-old Ena Bynum of Barnwell was killed along with uninvolved driver Erwin Inabinett, 60, when Bynum's BMW collided with Inabinett's Chevrolet Silverado during a Barnwell County Sheriff's Office pursuit.

According to the Barnwell County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was stopped near the intersection of Patterson Mill Road and Red Oak Road when the deputy observed Bynum's vehicle traveling south on Red Oak Road at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.

The deputy began attempting to catch up with Bynum and observed the BMW turn onto Kingfisher Road. The deputy continued behind the vehicle and activated the patrol vehicle's blue emergency lights. The Sheriff's Office said the BMW remained some distance ahead of the deputy.

At approximately 11:44 a.m., Bynum was traveling west on Kingfisher Road in a 2007 BMW when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the BMW crossed left of center and collided with an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Inabinett.

Bynum sustained fatal head trauma and died at the crash scene. Inabinett sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, where he subsequently died. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Barnwell County Coroner Denise Gibson identified Bynum and Inabinett and determined that Bynum died from head trauma while Inabinett died from multiple injuries sustained in the collision.

The reporting party told police that Mykel Dexter Jenkins was destroying property inside the home. When officers arrived, they encountered Jenkins, who police described as behaving erratically. On March 18, 2021, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at 14554 Pecan Road in Keithville, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant for an individual other than William "Billy" Walls, a 68-year-old male. Walls, a neighbor, permitted deputies to search his mobile home. During the search, Walls became agitated and attempted to re-enter his residence. For officer safety, he was detained and placed in the back of a patrol car. While in custody, Walls experienced a medical emergency. Deputies removed him from the vehicle and initiated CPR until emergency medical services arrived. Walls was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputy Ryan Chapman was later indicted on charges of malfeasance in office in connection with Walls' death. The indictment alleges that Chapman handcuffed Walls without reasonable suspicion of a crime, leading to his asphyxiation. Malfeasance in office is a felony that carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

On 03/18/2021, 26-year-old Tia O. Porter of Richmond was killed while riding as a passenger in a Dodge Avenger that crashed after a Virginia State Police pursuit. Driver Stephanie T. Morton, 46, and uninvolved driver Kenneth Crosby Jr., 61, were also killed.

At approximately 4:33 p.m., a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop the Dodge on northbound Interstate 95 near mile marker 127 in Spotsylvania County for traveling 80 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. Morton continued away and the trooper pursued.

The trooper terminated the pursuit approximately two minutes later because of heavy traffic. Morton continued north using the left shoulder. Troopers positioned farther north subsequently encountered the Dodge and initiated another pursuit when traffic conditions were lighter.

Morton reached speeds of approximately 100 mph before entering the I-95 Express Lanes by crashing through three illuminated warning gates. The lanes were carrying southbound traffic, placing the Dodge in the wrong direction against approaching vehicles. State police did not follow the Dodge into the Express Lanes.

Near mile marker 155 in Prince William County, the Dodge struck Crosby's southbound Ford Ranger head-on. The impact sent the Ranger over a guardrail. Two other southbound vehicles subsequently collided with the Dodge, which caught fire.

Porter was ejected from the Dodge and died at the scene. Morton also died at the scene. Crosby was killed in the head-on collision. Other people involved in the multi-vehicle crash sustained injuries.

On 03/18/2021, officers from the Bloomington Police Department responded around 6: 15 p.m. to a report of a man walking with a gun. They found Anton Lamont Burnes firing a handgun from a pedestrian bridge. A Bloomington officer fired his service weapon at Burnes, but it was not immediately clear whether he was struck by the gunfire. Burnes continued shooting his handgun from the bridge for the next 10 minutes, but police did not return fire. Burnes eventually climbed outside the bridge's safety fencing and shot himself, falling onto I-494 below and dying.

On 03/18/2021, Aiken County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a traffic disturbance at Marshall Street and Ergle Street in Graniteville. Deputies encountered 31 year old Exzabian Morgan Myers, who told officers he was high and asked to be taken to jail. Deputies handcuffed Myers. During the encounter, deputies said Myers attempted to move away and ran toward traffic. Deputies deployed their tasers multiple times while Myers was already restrained. Deputies then left Myers in a position that restricted his breathing. Myers became unresponsive and died at the scene. His family disputed the sheriff’s office account and later filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging excessive force, repeated taser use, and positional asphyxia, arguing deputies escalated a medical crisis into a fatal restraint. No deputies were criminally charged.

Arlington Police were contacted to help locate a felony suspect out of Arkansas wanted on multiple offenses, including five counts of rape and six counts of sexual indecency with a child. Around 5:22 p.m., officers located Juan Jimenez-Salas and stopped him in a parking lot. As officers approached the vehicle, he reportedly pointed a handgun at the officer on the driver's side. In response, one of the officers shot and killed him.

Daryl Lenard Jordan attempted to steal a bicycle from a bus, leading to a confrontation with the bike owner during which Jordan pulled out a gun and fired shots. He took the bike and went to a Chevron gas station, where he began shooting after an employee refused to let him inside. At the gas station, he stole a vehicle from a patron and left the scene, eventually crashing the vehicle into a market. When officers responded, a confrontation and exchange of gunfire occurred, and police shot and killed Jordan.

On 03/18/2021, around 11 a.m., two officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 7800 block of Bodkin View Drive in Pasadena following a call from a mental health facility to check on a man reported to be suicidal. Upon arrival, the officers entered the home through an unlocked door and encountered Leonard Popa holding a handgun. One of the officers then shot and killed Popa.

On 03/17/2021, at approximately 1: 45 a.m., officers from the Madison Heights Police Department began pursuing a vehicle without a license plate. The pursuit was terminated at the border of Royal Oak. Royal Oak Police Department officers then spotted the same vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver, SouhibZokari, did not stop. Police continued to chase west on 11 Mile Road with speeds exceeding 90 mph until Zokari lost control of his car and crashed into a light pole on the side, killing him.

On 03/17/2021, Saint James police responded to a report of gunfire in the 800 block of West Washington Street where a man barricaded himself inside a home, and after hours of standoff activity police reported he was found dead inside, with public reporting describing the death as self inflicted during the police standoff.

Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to a crash involving a Ford pickup at a CVS. A Wylie officer, who was handling an unrelated traffic stop at the time, was called to the scene of the crash. The officer found the body of a woman who had been seriously injured and saw a man, later identified as Shawn Myers, lying on the ground with a rifle. The officer ordered Myers to disarm, and when Myers did not comply, the officer shot and killed him.
