On 07/08/2025 at approximately 4:50 p.m., Georgia Department of Natural Resources game wardens responded to a trespassing complaint on private property along Brent Road in Lamar County. Upon locating Dante Romearo Smith, 28, at the intersection of Highway 341 and Brent Road, Smith allegedly charged at a warden while armed with a knife. The game warden fired, striking Smith. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, and findings will be turned over to the Towaliga Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Two juvenile occupants of the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene. Deputy Brown sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

On 07/08/2025 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Glendale Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle driven by Shawn Justin Towne, 51. Towne failed to stop and a short pursuit began. The chase continued for about one mile before Towne's vehicle collided with another car at Verdugo Road and Wilson Avenue and then struck a utility pole. Towne was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Glendale Police Department is investigating the incident.

Fire crews responded to a vehicle crash around 6:39 p.m. on the 600 block of Charles Street, near North Rowan Elementary School. Firefighters requested police assistance. Sgt. Tyler A. Lewis of the East Spencer Police Department arrived and encountered Jesse Duane Soderstrom, 45, who was reportedly armed with a hammer and acting aggressively. During the confrontation, Sgt. Lewis shot Soderstrom. He was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center and died of his injuries. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the case. Sgt. Lewis was placed on leave and later cleared by an internal review.

On 07/07/2025, Stafford Police responded to a robbery report on Avenue E. Officers located 35 year old Miftau Oladipo, who fled on foot armed with a large kitchen knife and a brick. A Taser was deployed but failed to stop him. Oladipo then moved toward officers. The police opened fire and killed him He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

Ryan Louis Mosqueda, 27, armed with an assault rifle, tactical vest, and additional rifles and ammunition, launched an early-morning attack on the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol annex as agents arrived for work, allegedly firing "many many rounds" at the entrance of the building. Multiple Border Patrol agents and McAllen police officers returned fire, killing Mosqueda at the scene. Two officers and a Border Patrol agent were allegedly injured. One McAllen officer sustained a knee injury, possibly from a bullet or shrapnel. Mosqueda was reportedly missing from Weslaco and driving a vehicle with Michigan plates. On 07/07/2025, Ector County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person allegedly firing a weapon in the 800 block of Avenue K in Odessa. Deputies approached the individual in a vehicle. Deputies stated the person fired shots at them. The deputies opened fire, shooting and killing him at the scene. The Texas Rangers and North Texas Regional DPS are conducting an independent investigation. The deputies involved were placed on administrative leave.

On 07/07/2025, Vermont State Police troopers escalated a response at the Putney Landing apartment complex after multiple calls reporting a man exhibiting threatening statements and signs of mental health crisis. On 07/07/2025 at about midnight, the Houston Police Department escalated a foot pursuit after a man fled following a reported burglary on Bellfort Avenue. A 41-year-old man from Tacoma was killed after a police pursuit ended in a crash north of Yelm on July 7, 2025. On 07/06/2025, a Perth Amboy Police lieutenant attempted to stop three individuals on motorized scooters near State Street and High Street. Two riders fled, and one briefly stopped before accelerating away toward Woodbridge Township. The lieutenant then allegedly ended the pursuit and shortly after, Woodbridge Township Police responded to a crash on State Street between Arbor Street and Ferry Street, where they found the scooter driver dead at the scene. An officer shot the man, and he was transported to UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown Hospital where he died. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.

Around 4:30 a.m., Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 1500 block of Helen Drive in City Terrace. When deputies arrived, an adult male allegedly opened fire on them. Deputies shot and killed him at the scene.

On July 4, 2025, around 6 p.m., Philadelphia Police responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance on the 2900 block of Lawrence Street in North Philadelphia’s Fairhill neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers were immediately shot at by the man inside the home. He exited the residence continuing to fire and was shot by multiple officers. He then entered a police vehicle and fired again while inside. Officers opened fire, and he exited the vehicle and collapsed. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m. The Philadelphia Police Department’s Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Unit and Internal Affairs are conducting an investigation.

On July 3, 2025, Marchello Dupree Woodward, 42, was fatally shot by a Pennsylvania state parole agent in the 1300 block of West 22nd Street in Erie. The man shot himself at around 4:27 p.m. It remains unclear why the gun was initially put down and then became accessible again. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Jerome Police are investigating.
