On May 2, 2025, 36-year-old Dustin J. Johnson allegedly shot his ex-wife’s current husband during a domestic dispute in the Argosy Casino parking lot in Riverside, Missouri. He fled in a rented U-Haul truck. Riverside Police and Platte County deputies pursued him onto I-29, where Kansas City Police deployed stop sticks. After the vehicle was disabled, officers negotiated with Johnson for 30 minutes. He exited the vehicle with a gun and pointed it at officers. Two Riverside officers and a Platte County deputy opened fire and killed him. The original shooting victim survived. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.

On May 2, 2025, Ventura County Sheriff's deputies responded to a grand theft report at a Target store in Camarillo. The man, identified as 26-year-old Matyes Getachew, fled the scene in a black Honda SUV. Deputies initiated a pursuit that continued through Thousand Oaks and into Simi Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) took over the chase on the 118 Freeway at Balboa Boulevard in Granada Hills. The chase reached speeds exceeding 110 mph, weaving through traffic and ended when Getachew's vehicle collided with the rear of a dump truck on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Ocean View Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge. Getachew was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 11:18 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Gregory Leschishin, a well-known local boxing coach, was out for his regular walk on Rogers Street when he was struck by a vehicle that had been chased into a crash by police. The driver carjacked another vehicle after jumping on the hood and screaming at the driver. Lowell Police were actively searching for him when he drove the stolen car onto the sidewalk and hit Leschishin. The impact caused life-threatening injuries, and Leschishin died four days later at Lahey Hospital.

A Morgan County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man while responding to a 911 call about an unwanted person at a residence on Ray Cross Road in the Mossy Grove area. Upon arrival, the man reportedly picked up a large rock and advanced toward the deputy. The deputy fired multiple shots, striking the man. Officers performed CPR until EMS arrived and transported him to Roane County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Following a grand jury review, Deputy Charles Faircloth was indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide and official misconduct in connection with the death of Cox.

Gregory Williams, 42, was shot and killed by New Orleans police outside the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street after officers responded to a call about a man experiencing an overdose. As officers attempted to provide aid, Williams allegedly became combative, got into his vehicle, and drove off while dragging one officer. Another officer opened fire, striking and killing Williams. On May 1, 2025, Cincinnati police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill. Officers approached four individuals inside the vehicle, who fled on foot. During the pursuit, 18-year-old Ryan Hinton allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer. The officer opened fire, killing him. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered but had not been fired. Body camera footage recorded the encounter showed that he was shot in his back several times while fleeing and he was not seen with a gun before or when he was killed. His father viewed the bodycam footage the next morning and drove a car into a police vehicle, killing an unrelated officer from the same PD and was arrested. The officer died.

On May 1, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., a Chattahoochee police officer initiated a pursuit of a 2016 Lincoln MKX SUV for a suspected drug offense on U.S. Highway 90. Officers made forcible entry and Coyle allegedly pointed a firearm at the officers. An officer shot and killed him in his home. Coyle was pronounced dead in his home. Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident, and the case file will be submitted to the Carroll County Prosecutor for review.

The caller locked herself in a bathroom and said the man was out of control. A deputy arrived and helped the woman escape the home. As the deputy approached the front door to make contact, the man emerged holding a knife and advanced toward him. The deputy opened fire and struck the man. Marina Vasconcelos, a 24-year-old doctoral student at the University of Delaware, was killed when Gordon Turner, 22, drove away at high speed from Newark Police in an overdue-for-return U-Haul van. As officers approached the van parked on East Main Street, Turner drove over a curb, hit a police vehicle, and sped away. Police claim that they did not chase but the crash reportedly occurred as part of a failed police traffic stop. Moments later, Turner lost control of the vehicle, striking Vasconcelos and seriously injuring another graduate student, before colliding with multiple parked cars and causing additional injuries. Turner was charged with second-degree murder and multiple other offenses, held on a $305,500 cash bond.

Upon arrival, officers found the main gate closed and locked. Inside the facility, they observed a pickup truck with its windows shattered. Officers encountered 31-year-old Alfred Lopez-Minor, a former employee of the Garden Bistro, an independently operated restaurant within the park. Lopez-Minor fired multiple shots in the direction of the officers. As Lopez-Minor exited the east side of the building, he allegedly then brought his hands together in a manner perceived as an imminent threat, prompting officers to fire multiple shots. Despite life-saving efforts, Lopez-Minor died at the scene. A handgun was recovered near his body.The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

On April 28, 2025, around 12:36 a.m., Casper Police officers responded to a report of an armed burglary at 1623 S. McKinley Street. Upon arrival, they encountered 37-year-old Jody Renee Cobia, the homeowner who allegedly had a gun. During the encounter, police shot and killed Cobia under undisclosed circumstances in her own home. It remains undisclosed who called police and why they arrived and killed the homeowner in her own home. Court records indicate that Cobia was a legal resident of the home, having sole possession as part of a protection order granted in August. The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The identity of the individual who called the police has not been disclosed in the available reports. The circumstances leading to the shooting, including the nature of the reported burglary and the actions of both the officers and Cobia, are under investigation.

Incidentally, her mother, Susan L. Talafous, who had a significant background in government and law enforcement, had encountered such profound problems with Cheyenne PD that she detailed it on her LinkedIn page which is posted in the source links below. Talafous was a fed gov investigator, a prison official, who had accused Casper PD of murdering her parents over some documents. The mother died from unknown causes. Now the granddaughter was killed by the same Casper PD.

On April 28, 2025, Jerome Cooper, 51, allegedly shot a 32-year-old man in the abdomen during a carjacking at a Public Storage facility near G Street and East Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia. A 29-year-old witness reportedly exchanged gunfire with Cooper during the incident.
Cooper fled in the victim's Toyota Camry, leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple districts. During the pursuit, Cooper allegedly fired at officers, with evidence of a fired cartridge casing found on the 700 block of East Cheltenham Avenue.
The chase concluded when Cooper's vehicle crashed into a tree in a grassy median at Roosevelt Boulevard and Langdon Street in the city's Summerdale section. As Cooper exited the vehicle armed, seven officers discharged their weapons, striking him multiple times. He was transported to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 32-year-old shooting victim was hospitalized in stable condition. The involvement of the 29-year-old witness is under investigation.

On April 28, 2025, at approximately 7:56 p.m., Jessica Sarah Vaux, a 32-year-old woman from St. Francis, Minnesota, was involved in a fatal crash during a police pursuit. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Vaux drove away from a traffic stop, was chased by police unti she rear-ended a 2022 International semi-truck on westbound Interstate 94 at mile marker 56 in Buse Township. Vaux died at the scene. The 26-year-old semi driver from St. Cloud was uninjured. Road conditions were reported as wet. The Clay County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation into the incident.

On April 27, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m., officers responded to a residence regarding a man in crisis with a self-inflicted neck wound. Inside the home, Derick P. Morgan, 56, held a knife and, according to investigators, charged toward a Marion police officer. A Grant County Sheriff’s deputy fired, striking Morgan, who died at the scene. Indiana State Police is the lead agency; findings will be forwarded to the Grant County Prosecutor.

At approximately 12:09 a.m. on April 27, 2025, a Virginia State Police trooper observed a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph on eastbound I-66 near Nutley Street in Fairfax County. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist drove away. Police escalated a chase to unknown speeds and stated that the trooper called off the chase “due to safety reasons,” not otherwise specified. Shortly thereafter, the fleeing motorcycle crashed into rear passenger side of an SUV, caught on fire which the trooper and then responding firefighters extinguished. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the crash site. The SUV driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies from the Benzie County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on a stolen SUV linked to an assault complaint in Antrim County. The driver did not stop. Deputies escalated a westbound chase on M-115. Approximately 1.5 miles into the pursuit, at unknown speed, the SUV crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound van carrying six Charlevoix High School varsity golf team members and their coach. The fleeing driver was killed. All occupants of the van were injured and transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, with the coach airlifted via Aero-Med helicopter.

On April 27, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers observed a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound on Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue at speeds approaching 130 mph. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver accelerated, reaching speeds up to 150 mph while exiting the highway at Temperance Avenue. The driver lost control on the off-ramp, causing the vehicle to become airborne and overturn multiple times. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Derrick Trujillo, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

On April 27, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a Justin Police Department officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as 54-year-old Eric Michael Watkins, failed to stop and continued driving to a residence in the 100 block of Daisey Lane. Upon arrival at the residence, Watkins exited the vehicle and fled into the backyard while armed with a firearm. When he emerged from the backyard, officers issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon. Watkins allegedly raised the firearm in a threatening manner toward the officers, prompting one officer to discharge their service weapon, striking Watkins. Officers rendered aid at the scene, and Watkins was transported to Medical City Denton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the incident, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Texas.

On April 26, 2025, at approximately 10:17 p.m., a police pursuit in Houston, Texas, began a chase when Precinct 7 Constable deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding at over 90 miles per hour without headlights. After the vehicle exited the freeway and continued to drive, Precinct 3 Constable deputies resumed the pursuit. The man being chased ran a red light and sped at over 90 miles per hour without headlights until he lost control of the vehicle, crashing.

The occupants exited the vehicle on foot, and while a deputy turned around to pursue, one manwas struck by the pursuing patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle struck the man, dragging him approximately 10 feet before becoming dislodged. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On the night of April 26, 2025, around 11:50 p.m., Myrtle Beach Police responded to reports of a large disturbance in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard. Officers arriving on scene observed an altercation in which someone opened fire into a crowd. One officer returned fire, fatally striking 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville. Eleven other individuals sustained gunshot-related injuries and were taken to area hospitals. The responding officer was uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting an independent investigation; MBPD is conducting an internal review. The police report states the shooting was classified as a “justifiable homicide.”

Deputies attempted to serve a TPO during a stop of an RV driven by James Blake Montgomery, 38. Montgomery produced a converted fully automatic 9mm AR-style pistol and opened fire, killing Deputy Brandon Sikes and critically injuring Deputy Gavin White. Deputies returned fire; Montgomery crashed trying to flee and was later found dead in the RV. Explosives (including pipe bombs), firearms and bomb-making materials were recovered.

On April 26, 2025, Prince William County police officers responded to a call at the Westminster at Lake Ridge senior living facility in Woodbridge, Virginia, regarding a 26-year-old man in crisis armed with a knife. Upon arrival, officers encountered the man in his grandmother's apartment. The man lunged at the officers with the knife, prompting them to fire their weapons. After the initial confrontation, the man attacked his 91-year-old grandmother, leading officers to fire again. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His grandmother sustained stab wounds and a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital in serious but stable condition. A second woman present in the apartment was unharmed. On April 26, 2025, North Charleston Police attempted a traffic stop on a 2014 U-Haul box truck at Dorchester Road and Meeting Street Road. The driver did not stop, and police escalated a pursuit that continued along Dorchester Road onto Interstate 26 eastbound. Officers discontinued the chase near Columbus and King Streets, but the box truck kept traveling. The truck struck two pedestrians at Columbus and Meeting Streets, then crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2022 Mercedes sedan. The Mercedes hit a Honda motorcycle, which then hit a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. One occupant of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Two pedestrians, three occupants of the Mercedes, and one occupant of the U-Haul were hospitalized with injuries. The driver and passenger of the U-Haul were arrested and reportedly claimed to be sovereign citizens. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation.
