On September 28, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a man contacted the Lone Tree Police Department, reporting that he had fired a shot inside his apartment and was experiencing suicidal thoughts. Officers from the Lone Tree Police Department, along with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and a mental health clinician, responded to the scene in the 12000 block of Roosevelt Lane in unincorporated Douglas County.

Upon arrival, crisis negotiators engaged the man via phone, urging him to exit the apartment peacefully. Approximately an hour later, around 7:20 p.m., the man emerged from the residence armed with a handgun, discharged a round into the air, and then pointed the weapon at the deputies. In response, several deputies fired at the man, who was subsequently transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an investigation into the incident. As of now, the man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

On September 27, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Smyrna Police Department officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at Adventure Outdoors, located at 2500 South Cobb Drive in Smyrna, Georgia. Upon arrival, an employee informed officers that a man was inside the business. Officers located 21-year-old Emilio Aguilar of Marietta inside the store and instructed him to exit. Once outside, as officers attempted to place Aguilar into custody, he broke free and began firing a rifle slung around his neck, striking two Smyrna officers in the leg. Three Cobb County police officers, who had arrived on the scene to assist, returned fire, fatally wounding Aguilar. The two injured Smyrna officers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

Upon their arrival, officers observed James Michael Spaugh fleeing the scene. Police established a perimeter and conducted a search in the vicinity of County 11th Street and S Desert Air Boulevard. During the encounter, police reported that Spaugh was shot and killed. The Yuma Police Department has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting or identified the officers involved.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation into the incident, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, as per protocol.

Goose Creek PD received a call from the Joint Base Charleston Naval Weapons Station reporting that a man had barricaded himself inside a residence with a 1-month-old infant. Police arrived and established a standoff. The man died from suicide under police duress. The infant was found unharmed. Marrington Elementary and Middle Schools as well as the Child Development Center were locked down during the standoff.

On 09/21/2024, 31-year-old Melvin Omar Chavez-Paz was shot and killed by Montgomery County deputies responding to a disturbance call in the 3400 block of Janet Road in Wheaton-Glenmont, Maryland. Deputies encountered Chavez-Paz holding a grill fork. His family stated that he was intoxicated and arguing with a neighbor prior to police arrival.

According to the family, Chavez-Paz did not speak English and likely could not understand officers’ commands. The family questioned why non-lethal methods, such as a Taser, were not used to subdue him. Chavez-Paz was unarmed aside from the grill fork he was holding throughout the encounter.

The incident is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Findings will be reviewed by the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

On September 21, 2024, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a call regarding a man in a mental health crisis at the InTown Suites on Central Florida Parkway. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 40-year-old Richard Green, who was reportedly walking in and out of his motel room with a knife.

Law enforcement attempted to engage with Green who allegedly continued to pose a threat. Officers opened fire, fatally wounding Green.

Michael Dean Geiger was pursued by Ohio State Patrol at high speed until he lost control of his GMC Yukon, causing it to crash. Geiger was ejected from the SUV and was pronounced dead. Police did not disclose. why they chased him.

On September 19, 2024, Polina Wright, 25, was shot and killed at her home in Ocala by her boyfriend, Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Leslie Boileau, during an incident while they were cleaning firearms. Boileau reported that the shooting was accidental, claiming the rifle discharged while they were handling it. Wright was shot in the forehead, and Boileau immediately contacted authorities.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Boileau was cleaning his rifle when the shot was fired. Boileau was arrested and charged with manslaughter, and he was dismissed from the Marion County Sheriff's Office after eight years of service. Boileau is currently held without bond at the Marion County Jail..

Diamond Elizabeth Brooks, a 26-year-old woman from Newport News, Virginia, died following a high-speed police chase. Virginia State Police attempted to stop Brooks' Chrysler 300 for speeding on Interstate 64. She drove away from the traffic stop and exited onto Hampton Roads Center Parkway. Police escalated a chase. At the intersection of Big Bethel Road, she lost control of her vehicle while attempting a turn and crashed into a traffic light pole. She was later identified as the driver, and the Virginia State Police are investigating the event. The Hampton Commonwealth Attorney also assisted with the investigation​.

McBee police alleged that Alton Modlin fired at them at a traffic stop. Police escalated a manhunt involving Lee county deputies, McBee PD, Darlington County deputies and SWAT. They found him in a cornfield. Police escalated a shootout and hit his patrol car. The car caught on fire and the K9 inside died. More than 100 police cars participated in the chase. Two officers were injured. Alton Modlin was killed.
