Thurston County deputies try to stop a motorcycle for undisclosed reasons. The motorcycle did not stop and police escalated the chase in excess of 100 mph until the motorcyclist crashed and died. On September 20, 2024, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Whitfield County 911 dispatched a deputy to a residence in the 1400 block of Ninety-Seven Springs Road in Dalton, Georgia, following reports of a man hallucinating and attempting self-harm. The man's wife had informed a friend that her husband, 32-year-old Alicio "Junior" Mayorga-Rangel, had ingested drugs. Upon arrival, the deputy heard commotion inside the home. As the deputy approached, Mayorga-Rangel, nude and agitated but unarmed, charged at the officer. Despite verbal commands to stop, Mayorga-Rangel continued advancing. The deputy deployed a Taser, which proved ineffective. Mayorga-Rangel, growling and with hands raised in a "fighting stance." The deputy fired multiple shots, striking Mayorga-Rangel. Even after falling, he resisted officers and EMTs attempting to render aid. Mayorga-Rangel was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.

NYPD chased a vehicle from Jamaica, Queens until Massapequa Park in Nassau County, where the vehicle crashed into several police cars, drove the wrong way with police in hot pursuit until he lost control at Hicksville Road and sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park. NYPD engaged in a shootout with him during which he was shot and killed. Seven officers who participated in the chase and crash were sent to the hospital.

On September 19, 2024, Clifford James Griffin, a 27-year-old from Maumelle, was killed in a crash while driving his Jeep southbound on Interstate 430 (I-430). West Memphis police had initiated a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle that was driving the wrong way on the interstate. The fleeing vehicle collided with Griffin's vehicle, causing the fatal crash. The driver of the evading vehicle, who had been attempting to flee from police, was severely injured and transported to the hospital. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jermaine M. Burnett was wanted for a homicide and was located in the Forest Village Apartment complex in Columbia, MO. Police exchanged fire with him and he was locked in an apartment. SWAT fired CS gas canisters into the apartment. When police made forcible entry with drones and robots, they found him dead from suicide.

On September 19, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., officers from the New Haven Police Department’s Violent Crime Task Force, assisted by the Connecticut State Police, located 36-year-old Jebrell Conley at the Splash Car Wash on Boston Post Road in West Haven. Police were attempting to arrest Conley on an outstanding federal warrant for robbery and firearm charges.

When officers approached Conley’s vehicle, he reportedly fired a shot from inside, shattering the driver's side window. A number of officers opened fire, hitting Conley multiple times. He was struck, removed from his vehicle, and transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

On 09/20/2024, Desire Pool, a 41-year-old woman, was struck and killed by a Houston Police Department (HPD) SUV while crossing Antoine Drive near Pinemont Drive. Officers Shelby Kennedy and Joshua Rosales were transporting an individual in custody at the time. Pool had exited a bus and was crossing the street with her children when she was hit by the HPD vehicle. Dashcam and body-worn camera footage from the incident revealed that Officer Kennedy performed CPR while Officer Rosales attempted additional life-saving measures at the scene.

A man in a mental health crisis was walking around the 5700 block of Oakland Avenue in St. Louis with a puppy. Police arrived and confronted him. He allegedly produced a knife and began stabbing his small dog. Police fired a taser at him, but he broke free and fled. Police again, cornered him, and allegedly ordered him to drop the knife. He instead went from standing to a seated position, but still held the knife. Police shot and killed him.

Ali Ali, aged 39, was involved in a manhunt in Orange County, New York, after crashing a stolen vehicle on the NY State Thruway. On 09/17/2024, deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Steven Fifer at a residence on the 5500 block of Hamerick Drive in Marrero. Fifer, wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated battery, theft, home invasion, and violation of a protective order, locked himself inside the house. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived, established a perimeter, and escalated a standoff.

Houston police were called by a woman who said she heard gunshots and that a bullet had come through her ceiling. After the crash, Greene allegedly revved the engine and displayed a firearm. Tasers deployed by officers were ineffective, and Greene reportedly fired at them, striking Officer Cade Moritz in the head and Officer Jacob Boekhoff in the arm.

Officers returned fire, discharging a total of 51 rounds. Officer Moritz underwent emergency surgery for his injuries, and Officer Boekhoff required surgery for his arm injury. Both officers were transported to a local hospital and are currently on administrative assignment as they recover. greene was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers located the man's vehicle en route. The man, identified as Samuel Sterling Caston, intentionally collided with a police vehicle and fled. Officers escalated a pursuit that ended in the 400 block of E. Leith Street. In an alley, Caston reportedly began shooting, striking a police vehicle. Officers returned fire, hitting Caston.

On September 16, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the Olive Branch Police Department's SWAT team attempted to serve an arrest warrant at 9142 Railroad Avenue in Olive Branch, Mississippi. The warrant was for 59-year-old Mark Miller, who had recently moved to Olive Branch and was wanted on two counts of possession of child pornography.

San Antonio police were sent on a welfare check in the legacy apartments on Sonterra Boulevard. A man and a woman had locked themselves into an apartment and SWAT were called. After several hours of SWAT attempting to get inside of the apartment, they made forcible entry and found, a man, approximately age 30 and a female in her late 20s dead. Police believe that the man shot the woman and then himself.

San Antonio police were sent on a welfare check in the legacy apartments on Sonterra Boulevard. A man and a woman had locked themselves into an apartment and SWAT were called. After several hours of SWAT attempting to get inside of the apartment, they made forcible entry and found, a man, approximately age 30 and a female in her late 20s dead. Police believe that the man shot the woman and then himself.

Donald Ingram shot and killed his wife and then fled. Richardson Police chased him through Richardson and Dallas until he died from suicide under police duress during the pursuit.

A 30 year old man who was in a jail cell in custody of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office was found hanging in his cell, allegedly from suicide. Incarceration list deaths in police encounters, as well as deaths considered “in custody” which includes jail. The database does not keep records of state and federal prisoners, once sentenced.

On September 11, 2024, at approximately 7:42 a.m., deputies at the El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs discovered 33-year-old inmate Zacharia Joseph Spriggs unresponsive in his cell, following an apparent suicide attempt. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by jail medical staff and emergency responders, Spriggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is conducting a full investigation into the incident. The official cause of death will be determined upon completion of an autopsy by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

Sumner PD responded to mental health crisis and called Washington State Patrol, Puyallup Police Department, Bonney Lake Police Department to try to arrest a man with a knife threatening self-harm. They shot and killed him.

A man reportedly stole a vehicle with Sherrie Moore and three children as passengers. Police chased him extensively and by reports engaged in a shootout with him. Ingram died from suicide under police duress. Sherrie Moore was found injured with several gunshot wounds and died on 09/19/2024 in the hospital. It is unknown at this time whose bullets she died from during the pursuit and shootout.
