On 09/20/2024, Desire Pool, a 41-year-old woman, was struck and killed by a Houston Police Department (HPD) SUV while crossing Antoine Drive near Pinemont Drive. Officers Shelby Kennedy and Joshua Rosales were transporting an individual in custody at the time. Pool had exited a bus and was crossing the street with her children when she was hit by the HPD vehicle. Dashcam and body-worn camera footage from the incident revealed that Officer Kennedy performed CPR while Officer Rosales attempted additional life-saving measures at the scene.

A man in a mental health crisis was walking around the 5700 block of Oakland Avenue in St. Louis with a puppy. Police arrived and confronted him. He allegedly produced a knife and began stabbing his small dog. Police fired a taser at him, but he broke free and fled. Police again, cornered him, and allegedly ordered him to drop the knife. He instead went from standing to a seated position, but still held the knife. Police shot and killed him.

Ali Ali, aged 39, was involved in a manhunt in Orange County, New York, after crashing a stolen vehicle on the NY State Thruway. On 09/17/2024, deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Steven Fifer at a residence on the 5500 block of Hamerick Drive in Marrero. Fifer, wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated battery, theft, home invasion, and violation of a protective order, locked himself inside the house. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived, established a perimeter, and escalated a standoff.

SWAT officers deployed smoke bombs to force Fifer out of the residence. At approximately 11:00 a.m., Fifer exited the house armed with a gun. According to Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, Fifer raised the weapon toward officers, who then opened fire, killing him at the residence. The identities of the deputies involved have not been disclosed.

Houston police were called by a woman who said she heard gunshots and that a bullet had come through her ceiling. Police arrived and found the upstairs door unlocked and a 27-year-old female dead with multiple gunshot wants to her head. In the bedroom, police found her boyfriend, a 33-year-old Harris County patrol officer, also dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident began when Des Moines Police attempted to stop Greene for a traffic violation near Easton Boulevard and Hubbell Avenue. Greene did not stop. The officers escalated a "brief pursuit" that ended when his vehicle crashed into a semi-truck near East 24th Street and Easton Boulevard. After the crash, Greene allegedly revved the engine and displayed a firearm. Tasers deployed by officers were ineffective, and Greene reportedly fired at them, striking Officer Cade Moritz in the head and Officer Jacob Boekhoff in the arm.

Officers returned fire, discharging a total of 51 rounds. Officer Moritz underwent emergency surgery for his injuries, and Officer Boekhoff required surgery for his arm injury. Both officers were transported to a local hospital and are currently on administrative assignment as they recover. greene was pronounced dead at the scene.

On 09/16/2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident in the 5900 block of Hessen Cassel Road. A 911 caller reported that a man had struck his wife and had a firearm.

Officers located the man's vehicle en route. The man, identified as Samuel Sterling Caston, intentionally collided with a police vehicle and fled. Officers escalated a pursuit that ended in the 400 block of E. Leith Street. In an alley, Caston reportedly began shooting, striking a police vehicle. Officers returned fire, hitting Caston.

Caston was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm was recovered. The incident is under investigation by Indiana State Police, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave per policy.

On September 11, 2024, at approximately 7:42 a.m., deputies at the El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs discovered 33-year-old inmate Zacharia Joseph Spriggs unresponsive in his cell, following an apparent suicide attempt. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by jail medical staff and emergency responders, Spriggs was pronounced dead at the scene.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is conducting a full investigation into the incident. The official cause of death will be determined upon completion of an autopsy by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.

On September 14, 2024, the Clay County Sheriff's Office initiated a high-speed chase involving 33-year-old Steve Randle Miracle. Authorities reported that Miracle was a suspect in a residential burglary and was allegedly driving impaired when deputies attempted to stop him. When Miracle failed to stop and allegedly attempted to ram a deputy’s vehicle, a pursuit was initiated.

Miracle continued to flee at high speeds. The pursuit ended on County Road 209 South when Miracle lost control of his vehicle, swerved off the road, struck trees, and rolled over, killing him at the scene.

Alejandro Gamez, 26, died by suicide under police duress on 09/14/2024, following a series of events linked to armed robberies and the murder of an accomplice. According to reports, Gamez and Ambernovana Guadalupe Gradillas, 24, were involved in several armed robberies before arranging a drug deal on 09/13/2024. During the meeting, Gamez shot and killed Manuel Avechuco, 44. Following the murder, Gamez and Gradillas fled the scene.

On 09/14/2024, police located Gamez at an apartment complex in Tucson. During an attempted arrest, Gamez fired at officers, damaging a patrol vehicle. Police escalated the encounter, and Gamez ultimately shot himself. Gradillas was later arrested and charged with felony murder and robbery.

The investigation is being conducted by the Tucson Police Department.

Andrews County deputies and US Marshals tried to arrest Ricardo Infante Junior for indecency with a child. He reportedly fought arrest and injured for officers with a knife. They shot and killed him.
