OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 4, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Jackson Police Department officers responded to a shooting on Barrett Avenue near Washington Avenue in Jackson, Mississippi. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Siris Catchings deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving Catchings' wife and identified 21-year-old Joshua Taylor as the shooter.

Following the incident, authorities initiated a manhunt for Joshua Taylor. On March 12, law enforcement officers located Taylor at the Super 8 Motel on Dunn Ratcliff Road NW in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Before officers could apprehend him, Taylor released a 16-year-old girl who was with him and then shot himself. He was initially treated at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven and later transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Taylor succumbed to his injuries on March 15.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Jackson Police Department, is conducting an investigation.
