On 03/02/2024, Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers pursued Cody Whiterock, a Shoshone-Paiute man, outside the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Owyhee County, Idaho. According to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by Whiterock’s family, officers continued the chase outside their jurisdiction and shot Whiterock multiple times, including in the face, back, and chest. The lawsuit alleges Whiterock was unarmed when he was killed and that officers withheld or falsified evidence in the aftermath.
