OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/28/2024, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Coeur d'Alene Police Department officers responded to reports of gunshots near the intersection of 9th Street and Spokane Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man with a rifle slung across his back standing outside a residence. The individual ignored police commands and retreated into the house. Police activated the SWAT team. As officers established a perimeter and attempted negotiations, they observed the house catching fire and heard additional gunshots from within. The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, detectives entered the residence and discovered one deceased individual inside. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
