On 07/18/2024, Tempe Police Department and US Marshals attempted to arrest Matthew Walsh at a residence on East Southern Avenue for outstanding warrants. Tactical units, including SWAT, were deployed, and during the operation, the home caught fire. Walsh was found dead inside the structure, with the cause of death later determined to be suicide under police duress.
