On 07/05/2024, Fort Hall Police Department officers responded to a report of a physical altercation at a residence on Batt Lane, where a juvenile had allegedly been assaulted by an adult male, identified as 20-year-old Mekalon J. Buckskin. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Buckskin had left. During a search of the residence, officers encountered Buckskin, who allegedly pointed a firearm at them and opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Buckskin was fatally shot, and one officer sustained injuries. The injured officer received treatment at a local hospital and was subsequently released. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Bingham County Sheriff's Office, is leading the investigation into the incident.
