On 07/05/2024, Mandeville Police Department officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 700 block of Heavens Drive. Upon arrival, officers heard a woman screaming inside the home. The woman, identified as 48-year-old Laina Lee, exited the residence and informed officers that a man inside was threatening to kill her.

Moments later, 46-year-old David Vang emerged from the home armed with a gun. He shot Lee multiple times. Vang then pointed his firearm at police. One officer deployed a taser while another officer opened fire, striking Vang. Both Lee and Vang were transported to a local hospital, where they died from their injuries.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
