OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

n 08/29/2024, at approximately 9:28 a.m., the Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to Highway 84 West near the Lodi community outside Glenwood after a 911 call concerning a woman with a knife. The woman was Jennifer Provence, 40, of Lodi. An ambulance was placed on standby nearby while law enforcement responded.

Pike County Sheriff Travis Hill later identified Deputy David Walker as the deputy who responded to the scene. Walker was working as a school resource officer at Centerpoint School District and was dispatched because he was nearby.

Arkansas State Police alleged that Provence did not comply with Walker’s commands to drop the knife. Later local reporting, citing Pike County officials, alleged that Provence had a large butcher knife and moved toward Walker. Walker fired his service weapon at Provence, striking her. She died from the gunshot injuries.

Walker was wearing a body camera, and Sheriff Hill confirmed that the camera was activated during the encounter. The Pike County Sheriff’s Office placed Walker on paid administrative leave following the shooting and requested that the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division conduct the investigation.

Arkansas State Police completed its investigative file and submitted the case to 9th West Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Jana Bradford. On 09/23/2024, Bradford determined that Walker’s use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law and declined to pursue criminal charges. Walker subsequently returned to duty.

David Walker was identified by Pike County Sheriff Travis Hill as the deputy who shot Provence. Walker was also serving as a Centerpoint School District school resource officer at the time of the shooting.
