Huntsville police responded to a domestic violence call around 9:30 a.m. on August 24, 2024, at the Reserve at Research Park. Officers arrived to hear gunshots and found a woman and child trying to flee. Naimmikal Wayne Sanders, 38, of Decatur, fired at the woman while an officer was present. The officer then shot Sanders, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and child were taken to safety, and the woman sustained injuries. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the incident.
