On 08/24/2024, a man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an armed standoff with Minot police following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 2/52 near the 16th Street Southwest exit in Minot, North Dakota.

At approximately 7:35 p.m., a Minot Police Department officer stopped the man's vehicle. The specific traffic violation or other reason that prompted the stop was not publicly disclosed. According to police, when the officer approached the vehicle, the driver displayed a handgun and made a threatening statement. The officer retreated to his patrol vehicle and took cover.
