On August 21, 2024, Delaware State Police escalated a high-speed chase after the driver of a Kia failed to stop for a traffic signal. As a result of the high-speed chase, the vehicle crashed into a minivan driven by 29-year-old Karisma Stevens, who was transporting her children, including 10-year-old Zamiyah Stevens. Both Karisma and Zamiyah were killed instantly.

Three other children from the same family, aged 8, 5, and 3, were injured, with one in critical condition. The reason for the police chase was the Kia driver's failure to stop at a traffic stop, prompting police to escalate the chase.
