OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/18/2024, officers from the Chicago Police Department Robbery Task Force heard gunfire near the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, police encountered four armed individuals. Officers opened fire, striking Alex Angel Cortez, 16. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals were found nearby, both alive but suffering from gunshot wounds. Police have not disclosed the events leading to the shooting or the identities of the officers involved.
