On August 16, 2024, around 9:30 p.m., Massachusetts State Police initiated a pursuit of a pickup truck that was speeding on I-93 northbound. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, which exited at Exit 30, prompting the trooper to terminate the chase in accordance with department policy.

Shortly after, the pickup truck collided with a sedan at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Commerce Way, resulting in the death of the pickup truck's driver. The two passengers in the truck were injured, and the driver of the sedan was uninjured. The crash caused significant damage, including a power outage to a nearby apartment building, which was restored after the investigation.
