OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/13/2024, officers with the China Grove Police Department were investigating a location that they said was associated with stolen vehicles when they observed three motorcycles leaving the area. Police did not report that the motorcycles had been confirmed stolen before the pursuit began. Officers followed the motorcycles in an attempt to obtain license plate and registration information. Police stated the riders appeared to realize they were being followed and began communicating with one another. One motorcyclist accelerated, passed vehicles in a no-passing zone, and continued driving away. China Grove officers then initiated a pursuit of that motorcycle.
The pursuit continued eastbound on FM 1346 before the motorcycle entered Loop 1604. Near the intersection of Loop 1604 and North Graytown Road, the motorcycle entered the intersection against a red light and collided with a pickup truck driven by 40-year-old Michael Husky, who was not involved in the pursuit. Husky and the motorcyclist both died from injuries sustained in the collision. The motorcyclist was later identified as Larry Nees.
After the crash, China Grove police announced that the motorcycle Larry Nees had been operating had been reported stolen to the San Antonio Police Department on 07/09/2024. Police also stated that Nees was wanted on an outstanding Bexar County drug-trafficking warrant. Those facts were released after the collision and were not identified by police as the reason the pursuit was initiated.
A review of subsequent reporting through 2026 located no publicly reported civil lawsuit filed by Husky's family, no public disciplinary action involving the pursuing officers, and no publicly released independent prosecutorial findings regarding the pursuit.
