OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/10/2024, at approximately 1:12 a.m., deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department observed a motorcycle traveling near North Leroy Street and 23rd Street in San Bernardino. Deputies attempted to stop the motorcycle for vehicle code violations. The rider, later identified as 54-year-old Albert William Park, continued driving away while deputies pursued.
The pursuit ended when Park rode to a residence in the 2000 block of North Sierra Way, abandoned the motorcycle, and ran toward the front porch of the home. According to the Sheriff's Department, Park was carrying a loaded handgun. Deputies confronted him on the property, and an officer shot him during the encounter. Deputies rendered medical aid, but Park was pronounced dead at the scene. A loaded handgun was recovered.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Specialized Investigations Division assumed responsibility for the investigation. An autopsy was conducted by the Sheriff's Coroner Division. Public reporting through 2026 located no criminal charges against the involved deputies, no publicly announced disciplinary action, and no publicly reported civil lawsuit or settlement arising from the shooting. The Sheriff's Department has not publicly identified the deputies who fired their weapons.
