OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/11/2024, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Delhi Police officers encountered 47-year-old Rodrick Edmond operating a vehicle in a suspicious manner in the Delhi Police Department parking lot. Officers attempted to detain him, but Edmond continued driving away while police pursued. The publicly stated reason for the pursuit was Edmond's unspecified "suspicious activity" in the police department parking lot after officers attempted to stop him.
The pursuit ended on Louisiana Highway 17 when Edmond stopped his vehicle and got out armed with a knife. According to the Louisiana State Police investigation, an altercation followed between Edmond and the officers. During the confrontation, officers fired, striking Edmond. Officers rendered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Edmond died at the scene. No officers were injured.
The Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division conducted the independent investigation at the request of the Delhi Police Department. After processing the scene and completing its investigation, Louisiana State Police submitted the case to the appropriate prosecutor for review. Public reporting through 2026 located no criminal charges against the involved officers, no publicly announced disciplinary action, no civil lawsuit or settlement, and no public release identifying the officers who fired.
