OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/08/2024, Sumter County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 1100 block of South Georgia Tech Parkway after a 911 caller reported that Jamie Lynn Still had barricaded himself inside a residence with family members present and that shots had been fired inside the home.
Deputies established a perimeter and communicated with 45-year-old Jamie Lynn Still. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Still eventually came out of the residence carrying a rifle. Deputies repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. The GBI reported that Still instead pointed the rifle toward deputies, and one deputy fired, striking him. Deputies entered the residence, secured the home, confirmed that the family members inside were unharmed, and immediately began lifesaving measures. Still was pronounced dead at the scene. The rifle was recovered by investigators.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted the independent investigation at the request of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. An autopsy was performed by the GBI Medical Examiner's Office, and the completed investigative file was forwarded to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
