OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/07/2024, members of the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit went to a residence in the 2900 block of Elinor Street in Fort Worth to arrest 41-year-old Bo William Aurell on felony warrants after he allegedly violated bond conditions in a child sexual assault case and an unlawful restraint case.
Deputy Todd Tipton, a 13-year veteran of the Sheriff's Office and SWAT operator, was serving the warrants when Aurell opened fire. Tipton was struck three times, including a graze wound to the neck and gunshot wounds to the arm and lower back. He was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital and released later that day.
After the shooting, Aurell barricaded himself inside the residence. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Fort Worth Police Department, which deployed its SWAT team. During the standoff, Aurell claimed other people were inside the home, prompting officers to treat the incident as a possible hostage situation. After tactical officers entered and cleared the residence, no hostages were found.
Aurell died inside the residence before the standoff concluded. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later ruled the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
