OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/03/2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies were responding to assist firefighters at River Bend RV Park in Falling Waters after firefighters reported that a large disturbance had gathered and requested law enforcement to expedite to the scene. Deputy Clark was responding westbound on King Street in a marked patrol SUV with emergency lights and siren activated when he entered the intersection of King Street and Illinois Avenue. Investigators determined that 51-year-old Peter Christensen, who had been stopped facing south at the intersection, drove into the intersection without yielding to the emergency vehicle. Deputy Clark's patrol SUV struck the driver's side of Christensen's Toyota Camry. Christensen died at the scene. Passenger Christopher Dodrill, 48, of Ridgeley, West Virginia, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Deputy Clark was treated and released. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department investigated the collision, reviewing witness statements, in-car camera footage, and other video evidence. Publicly available records have not announced criminal charges or disciplinary action related to the collision.
