OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/02/2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Gresham Police officers assigned to a multi-agency street racing and street takeover enforcement mission attempted to stop a speeding, reckless driver near Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast Hancock Street. The driver, 22-year-old Malcom T. Braman, continued driving away while police pursued. Officers requested the Air Support Unit and began coordinating the deployment of spike strips in an effort to end the pursuit. Approximately two minutes after the pursuit began, Braman lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a utility pole, and the vehicle rolled over near the intersection of Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast Marx Street. Braman died at the scene. Passenger Nicholas P. McGuire also died, and a third occupant was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team investigated the collision. Publicly available records have not identified the pursuing officers or announced criminal charges or disciplinary action related to the pursuit.
