OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/14/2024, around 3:00 a.m., Denham Springs Police Department officers responded to reports of a man firing a gun from the second floor of the Motel 6 at 125 W. Rushing Road. Officers encountered 31-year-old Chevis Whalen in the roadway near the motel, allegedly armed. Officers allegedly ordered him to drop the gun, then engaged in a shootout during which police shot him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
