On September 5, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to a domestic violence call. During their response, a man drove by the scene, and officers attempted to initiate contact. The man failed to stop and continued driving through intersections.

Near the corner of West Henry Street and North Jefferson Street, the man, while still in his vehicle, fired multiple shots at a Mount Pleasant police officer inside a patrol car. The officer was not injured. The suspect fled, and officers pursued.

The chase ended when the man lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Highway 218 and 185th Street. Officers approached the vehicle and found the suspect deceased.
