OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/24/2022, Sevier County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to stop 32-year-old Zachary Tyler Gorman, who was riding a motorcycle. Authorities have never publicly disclosed why deputies initiated the attempted traffic stop or what prompted the pursuit. Gorman continued riding away while deputies pursued him northbound on Veterans Boulevard toward McCarter Road.
As the pursuit approached the intersection of Veterans Boulevard and McCarter Road, Gorman rode through a red traffic signal and collided with a Honda Odyssey that was making a left turn onto Veterans Boulevard. The impact threw Gorman from the motorcycle, and he slid underneath another vehicle. He died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. No other motorists were seriously injured. The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the collision. Authorities did not report that any officers discharged their weapons or made physical contact with the motorcycle before the crash.
Despite the fatal outcome, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office never publicly explained the reason for initiating the pursuit or released additional information regarding the events leading up to it. Gorman's obituary states that he was a resident of Strawberry Plains, the father of two daughters, Harper Gorman and Greer Griph, and a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church.
