On 09/21/2024, Yuma police responded to reports of a "physical domestic disturbance" involving a child in the area of S. Ragen Drive and E. 30th Place. Upon their arrival, officers observed James Michael Spaugh fleeing the scene. Police established a perimeter and conducted a search in the vicinity of County 11th Street and S Desert Air Boulevard. During the encounter, police reported that Spaugh was shot and killed. The Yuma Police Department has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the shooting or identified the officers involved.
