On 10/01/2024, the Sunset Police Department and the Opelousas Police Department located a vehicle reported stolen from a commercial parking lot. The vehicle, driven by 17-year-old Tashawn Jackson, did not stop when officers attempted a traffic stop. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit, reportedly exceeding speeds of 100 mph that ended when the vehicle crashed in the 1100 block of East Vine Street.
