On October 28, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies from the Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call involving a firearm at a residence on Kingsbury Road near South M-43 Highway in Hope Township. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 37-year-old Jeremiah Johnson, who was reportedly holding a firearm. Johnson allegedly threatened officers with the gun, prompting deputies to open fire. Johnson was shot and killed at the scene. A handgun was recovered, and law enforcement indicated that Johnson had not fired it at officers.
