OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
York County deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a man who did not stop. Police escalated a chase in excess of 100 miles an hour and the truck suddenly stopped. The man was upset and told officers that he wanted to die. He reportedly took over the patrol car with a canine inside and drove off. Police escalated another high-speed chase and he stopped on the railroad tracks. The driver, Joseph Stoltenberg, hit the back of a vehicle that was waiting at the railroad tracks, pushing the vehicle into the path of a train. The train collided with both vehicles, killing Stoltenberg, as well as the bystander Ediger and a police dog that was in the stolen police car.
