On September 17, 2024, Chelsea Lynette Heugel, a 23-year-old mother of three, was in custody at the 36th District Court in Detroit, Michigan, awaiting arraignment on charges including operating a stolen vehicle and fleeing police. While detained, Ms. Heugel attempted suicide using a cord from a payphone. Despite immediate medical attention, she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
