Police escalated a pursuit that began in Iowa following a report of kidnapping and domestic assault ended in Missouri with a wrong-way crash that claimed the lives of four individuals, including two Kearney High School students and the driver under pursuit. A third teen was seriously injured, and a 1-year-old child, who was also in the fleeing driver’s vehicle, survived after being rescued.

Fremont County deputies and Iowa State Patrol troopers pursued a man who , who drove southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 29. The Iowa trooper ended the chase at the Missouri state line, but a Fremont County deputy continued.
The crash involved the fleeing driver’s 2023 Kia Sorento, a 2013 Ford Focus carrying the teens, and a 2024 Volvo semi-truck. The Sorento burst into flames after the crash.
Three teens in the Ford Focus, all from Kearney, Missouri, were involved; two lost their lives. The fleeing driver also died, while the 1-year-old child in the Sorento survived.
