Ryan Marzi died after an encounter with Connecticut State Police officers on August 24, 2022, in Canterbury, Connecticut. Marzi, 38, had been involved in a domestic violence incident, and officers were dispatched to respond. When Trooper Desmond Stimson and Trooper Trainee Jessie L. Rainville arrived, Marzi attempted to flee into a vehicle. A physical struggle ensued, and during the altercation, Marzi was tasered by Rainville after refusing to comply with the officers' commands.The struggle, which lasted for several minutes, involved Marzi stating that he had sustained a broken leg, and he repeatedly expressed his inability to comply with the officers' demands. After being tasered, Marzi was eventually handcuffed, but he remained in distress. He died four days later, on August 28, 2022, in Hebron, and the medical examiner ruled the cause of death a homicide, citing the injury Marzi sustained during the arrest.
