OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On November 5, 2024, Phoenix police responded to reports of a home break-in near 15th Avenue and Chipman Road. The caller reported that a man, later identified as Carlos Fregoso, was armed and attempting to force entry. Police pursued Fregoso after spotting his pickup truck leaving the area. The chase ended near S 15th Avenue and Wier Avenue when the truck collided with a wall. Police reported that Fregoso exited the vehicle armed with a gun and allegedly raised it toward officers while running toward a residential driveway. Officers fired a total of 15 rounds, fatally striking him. Two handguns were found near Fregoso, and a rifle was discovered in his truck.

The investigation is being handled by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office and the Phoenix Police Department. The identity of the involved officers has not been disclosed.
