OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/28/2024, Akron Police Department officers were in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood when they responded to nearby gunfire. During the investigation, officers encountered a man armed with a loaded firearm. One officer, a nearly five-year veteran of the force, shot and killed the man. Officers provided first aid at the scene before the man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation, with a review by the state attorney general's office before submission to a Summit County grand jury. A separate internal investigation by Akron Police will also be conducted.
